starter bolt threads are stripped on my 5EK66447 wheel housing, im going to buy a new aftermarket flywheel housing. i know you can not mix c15 and 3406e housings, this engine came out of a 97' 379 and is going in a 08' 389. im assuming I just go with a kenworth/peterbilt compatible housing.

Is there any significance with 'angled motor mounts' or is that normal?

I think the motor mounts may be different.

I looked into that, how secure are they? is it considered a permanent fix? I'd hate one day to swap the starter and it strip again. since the engine on out of the truck this is the best time to replace the housing

Heli coils are the way to go. How much labour is involved in removing the transmission and removing the rear structure + put it back together? Probably at least 16-18 hours. Bet you could drop the starter, install the heli coils and have the starter back on in about 2 hours.

I wouldn't hesitate to use them. I think CAT actually makes a really good thread insert too. Similar to a heli coil but its solid and is locked in with roll pins.

Didn't see where you said the engine's out of the truck.

If you're hesitant about using heli coils, you could always take it to a machine shop. Very good chance they can weld the holes up, then re-drill and tap them. Probably take them an hour or 2 max. Bet it comes out cheaper than a new housing.

Did not know about the inserts. We have a Cat running here for two years with those bolts Heli coiled. No one had a coil as long as the hole. We stacked two shorter ones in each hole. No problem.

Been a loooooong time since I've seen these. I'm fairly certain those tangs get driven into the face after the install, which would lock them in place so they wouldn't spin out with the bolts if you ever had to take them out.

Helicoil in aluminum is better and stronger then new. If engine is out id re seal the rear structure along with rear main and helicoil the starter bolts. Done.

No need for a new housing.

I heli coil one of mine. Easy and better than new. Be careful torquing those bolts, housing is aluminum and if you use anti-seize lube on the threads lower your torque spec accordingly.

I also put a stud on the top hole, makes removing and replacing the starter a lot easier.
