If you would like to learn split breaking let me know and I would be glad to "TRY" and help you out! Guys/Ladies it is really easy once you get the hang of it! It just takes someone to actually tell you the "EASY" steps to figuring out your hours available!
Ask and I will try to answer you!
I want all drivers to know how to do it, so you "might" not run illegal! :smt041

Yes I can but this morning I don't have time and my computer has been down sorry so long to reply. If you send me your e-mail address I can forward you a sheet or two that might help also to study. I do know with split breaking you just have to keep drawing pictures out until you get it! If you get a blank log book we can do this together via pm or on the board so others may learn also. I will post something on split breaking, but remember you must keep and open mind and want to learn it and keep at it until you get it, once you get it you won't forget it unless you don't use it! Wow I hope that made sense, l.o.l. Ok if you have any examples to see if you do know it, give them to me. -
We're not allowed to split break.

I hate companies that say you are not allowed to split break, they only lose money and drivers lose many chances to get out of tight situations, LEGALLY! Many drivers I see that log illegal (to some exstent sp?) if they would have logged it the way they did it, they would have been legal if they chose to split break!
I LOVE THE SMILIES TODAY! -
Every time I've tried splitting my break 8/2 I've gotten "love letters" from my companies log department telling me I was over my 11 and/or 14. I don't bother any more. 11/14 and 10 for me

OK. Here's a softball.
If you are driving through--no drops, hooks, maybe a fueling--how would a split break matter? Wouldn't the only other things to put on the log be pre- and post-trip inspections of your truck? Maybe one or two restroom breaks? I can see it getting loused up if you gotta be somewhere at a certain time or if you hit bad weather or traffic. You know if that's going to be a possibility, so you don't split break in that case. Is it just a matter of taste then? -
I don't know why they had to change the policy on this. When I was with PAM, I'd split all the time and "pause" my 14 for 2, 3, 4, or how ever many hours I spent at a dock waiting for them to load/unload me. Now I just bite the bullet and take a short driving day if I've been tied up over 3 hours. -
A split break would not be usefull in the above situation. Yes split breaking is VERY usefull for when you get held up at a shippers for say 5 hours or bad weather or like you said to get the load there on time.
It's really just a great tool to understand to help you get out of tough situations or to use it as you like to use it! I always state if you can avoid splitting "AVOID IT" but you should understand it for the day you will need it, if OTR. HAVE A GREAT NIGHT

I have never run into problems with violations by logging my 2 hour break first. I'm regional, so I have to do this a few times a week at my backhauls. It allows me to just need 8 hours off when I'm done for the day.
