I don't know about the no-contracts but verizon by far has the best cell signal coverage area.

Depends on how much you're going to use it. We've used virgin mobile for years as an emergency phone. We pay about $7/month and get really good coverage.

Keep in mind no contract is only good if you hardly ever use it. Make a few calls a day and you'll pay way more than a standard plan.

I had Cingular it was decent, but when they switched to at&t. It became way expensive and coverage seemed to go down

There is a new service out run by Tracfone called Straight Talk. It's $45 a month for unlimited everything and runs off of the Verizon 1x network.

    From wikipedia:

I just got the Straight Talk Samsung R355C with the full keyboard it looks like the expensive Blackberry but at $109.00 its a lot cheaper! I found out you should buy this unit on the Wall Mart web sight as if you buy it there instead of at the store they include a 1000 min. card free, This reduces the cost of the phone to $80.00. In the store you only get the phone and no min. I tried the web on it and although it was a little slow it worked well. It uses the Verizon network, I will buy the $45.00 unlimited everything for 30 days on my next due date. There are no connection fees or hidden charges at all. I checked the coverage area map and its GREAT! Some are paying $60.00-$70.00 a month for similar plans with 1-2 year contract. all and all I give this pre paid phone 4 out of 5 stars I would have given it a 5 if the internet was faster. I call my phone a "Wall berry" Here are other reviews-click on provided link here.http://www.google.com/search?q=Strai...&start=10&sa=N

I am using the exact same phone with the $45/month plan. I have had it for a few months now and have no complaints at all. Excellent coverage.

I just recently saw that they now have a 3 months unlimited card as well. I'll be going that route next month just to save having to refill it every month.

    I bought a Tracfone T-301G awhile back.
It was $30. and you get doubles minutes for life.
It has good sound and coverage.
I just use phone, no internet or texting so its perfect for me.
