How do you watch TV shows on the road??

For sports, I use Justin(dot)tv. But NFL games are usually blocked out in the second quarter. No problem with college games.

For TV shows I usually just go to the network website. But CBS only works with very fast connection. The Fox video player works best and adjusts for speed. I have a flat screen in the truck and plug my computer into it. It's almost like HD with Fox and CBS. I also use FanQuest.

FYI, I have Millenicom wireless. I once tried to use Flyin J wi-fi to watch a football game and it kept breaking up. No problem with Millenicom.

Another thing I do is rent a bunch of movies/tv shows when I'm home and record them on Dvd's or to my hard drive. You need special software to do this, Dvdfab is what I use. And if you burn to your hard drive on Vista or Windows 7 you'll need to burn it as an ISO file and download another program (Vlc media player) to watch them.

 

A little off-topic for a moment....CommDriver, what kind of connection do you have from your laptop to TV, and where did you find it? I have bought two seperate S-video cords, and neither one fits my laptop.

Back to topic, I do the same as CommDriver, watch shows on the network websites.
I also have a program installed that will allow me to watch live TV on my laptop, while hubby is driving, but it won't work until I buy the TV tuner for my laptop.

Depending on how old your laptop is, you may have an HDMI connection or VGA connection. The HDMI connection looks kind of like a USB port and the VGA looks like a printer cord outlet. I use VGA because don't have HDMI. But it depends on your tv also. Your tv would need to have one of these also. Most flat screens have at least VGA or HDMI but some of the older ones don't.

FYI, these cords are very expensive, like $30-$50 at stores, so I'd advise ordering one online if you get one.

Yeah, I forgot about S-Video, which is what she was talking about. I noticed I do have an S-video connection also on both tv and laptop.

I have tivo. you can got to their web site and log into your account and down load programs that you recorded at home. If you have it set to record your favorite shows it's cool. You can even set it from your lap top to record shows, movies or ball games, that you did not have it set to record before you left home.

 

these days there is also the option to watch tv on your cell phone. if you get one with a nice display. I can watch some on my Samsung phone, I was pretty impressed with that until I was visiting my mother and showed her. She laughed, pulled a Palm Pre out of her bag and fired up SprintTV. It looked and sounded amazing, it was like a portable HI Def tv, only the feed was coming through streaming over the internet.

 

TV on the road.... hmmm, well I download full seasons of Xvid shows, like Heroes, Big Bang Theory, etc. and I just put them on an external drive. When I want to watch them on the road, I grab the drive and take it with me. My laptop has bluray and a 17" display, paired with some good headphones, it's plenty for me in a truck.
