jamespmack Thanks this.

Your not listening to him. He is advancing timing, removing fuel for economy and lower nox.
For power he is retarding timing and adding fuel.
Listen very carefully.
He is one of two guys that knows this better than anyone else. -

Factory tune is in it. I had sent a spare ecm down to Erich at serious series 60. Didn’t change the smoke and had another issue of popping and blowing white smoke intermittently with the park brake released. Tried to get ahold of him a month or so ago to get my ecm back with no reply.
I don’t have dct yet. I’ve got neqlink. Would like to learn how to pull the info and retune or even send to someone to peak at. -

If we're talking making big hp/longevity and nothing else @jamespmack is right. Retarded timing for the win. From personal experience too. Lots of fuel/boost + timing is a ticking time bomb.
Timing advanced a tad you'll see better economy. Don't have to push the go pedal as hard but on a pull it'll lose steam quicker than retarded timing. The increase in cyl psi and heat rejection negates the pluses. You're way better off dealing with increased egt's than cyl pressure.
Here's a very in-depth article about timing and it pretty much explains in depth what the vid James posted

This is a known issue with the 15:1 compression ratio pistons. There is no fix for it. If you tune the engine and install a different cam and turbo it will likely help. The reason it's using oil is not due to the compression. It's likely from carbon build up on the rings. It's frowned upon by many but if your using an additive in the oil like lucas I'd stop. I change and use ATF, 2 quarts per 10 gallons of oil. Or fill with oil and add 2 quarts. The ATF will help clean things up. Oil already has a good additive package, and some say that ATF dilutes it. I've asked several oil sample facilities, oil manufacturers, and engine builders. They all say the same, there is no evidence that it effects the additive package of the oil, in fact a couple oil manufacturers suggested with some of their oils it will possibly make it more potent.
If the engine is stock, try a tune. 171702 turbo and different cam also. Get the engine to where it's working instead of over fueling. The white smoke will get better once warm, but be aware it likey won't go away, but the tune and more heat in the cylinders will help. No sense in frowning over it.
Diesel engines will perform different with lower compression, more fuel and air. You'll see 2 engines with different compression ratios built and tuned the same, the lower compression will out perform the other.
