I use to drive for Swift back in 1996-1997. Have numerous questions. Idling in hot weather for how long? I'm seeing it posts that trucks cut off after a certain amount of time.?? I'm looking to run 48 states and stay out 4 weeks at a time.?? These questions are for Swift drivers, getting back into the Job I loved after a long time. Has allot changed since 9/11? I see hazmat has. I see allot of Companies don't require hazmat anymore. I have a felony for Child Support, Swift is hireing me after graduation from truck driving school. Will I be able to go into Canada or Mexico? Do you need a passport? Can I run just 48 states without going into Mexico or Canada? Back when I drove for Swift and Werner you could have pets, heard no more, what happened? How is solo driving miles right now per week? When I was with Swift they were governed at 55mph, what is it now? I had a low profile Century class with Swift. What is the fleet like now? I drove straight 10's and super 10's trannys. Is is pretty much the same? Do they still pay for Lumpers? Showers? Do they still use doubles in Dry box fleet? Do they still have you go off route to fuel at yards? I remember they use to let you fuel at Petro's if a yard was to far off route delevery.?? Had to get out of industry to take care of the Child support case. It's all done, kids grown. Loved trucking, enjoyed both Swift and Werner, really looking forward to getting back into it. Was driving 40, 60 foot and double decker buses for the past eight years for a City. Hated it because of the class of passengers, threats from cowards who couldn't back their threats, and the stench of unwashed bodies. Freight doesn't talk back, LOL. Was a trucker from 96-98.

Attention employers: We now require a valid DOT# for anyone wishing to post a driving position. If your job offer doesn't contain a DOT number, it will not get past moderation and will not appear in the forum. The other requirements in the sticky at the top of this section are still required as well. Thank you for understanding.

Hi. Opt-idle on the newer trucks runs until the "controlled" temperature reaches the setting you have in your bunk. A lot has changed since 2006 When I started there. If you drive for Swift, chances of going into Canada or Mexico are slim. They have a fleet called "transmex" that takes the mexico freight in and brings the mexico freight back out to the border town terminals. Their trucks are governed at 62 now. Owner operators 68. no more pets unless you're an owner op. Solo/teams miles are averaging about 2000 per week at this time. New trucks are volvo's, kw t660s and some internationals. A few freightliners still out there, all 8 speeds, or mostly anyway. Still pay for lumpers, not showers. No towels at the terminals either. bring your own. If you can fuel at the yards it's better, but they set you up with a fuel stop along your route if necessary. They use all the big truck stops. I don't work for Swift any longer, but my husband just left last week. I know the ropes. Plus I managed 4 trucks from home for awhile before venturing back out here myself. Sold them all, left Swift and have moved on down the road. Good luck to ya.

I have a question about Swift too...
Anyone have any information on the Walmart DC Fleet in Casa Grande? -
I took a load there once. It's not likely that you will get on with Swift and have a dedicated dc of any kind run right out the door. Unless of course you don't mind family dollar or dollar general where you have to unload your own trucks.

I haven't heard anything back from phone and Email questions to my recruiter from Swift. Is anybody else having the same problem as Me? I got a pre-hire prior to starting school. I've been trying to get ahold of recruiter to try and see when orientation would be. I graduate October 23 and I'm getting worried. Is anybody else in the same situation with Swift as me?

There are pages and pages of info new and old about swift on this forum.
Much of the info you are looking for is probably in the swift DAC section on the "Inside Scoop" thread.
I never thought I would ever see a post about Swift trucks going faster lol.
But they are in fact governed at 62 now.
I hear there idle policy is freaking insane though.
I thought Centrals was bad.
Keep calling the recruiter.
They will get back to you eventually. E-mail to recruiters at any company seems to be a waste of time. No idea why. -
You cannot go to Canada if you have a felony. You can't even go to Canada if you have certain misdemeanors. You can idle your swift truck for as long as you want to. You will however catch eternal grief about it from your driver manager. You cannot have a pet as a company driver now. You can as an owner operator. Swift trucks are governed at 62 mph now. The miles are very erratic. As soon as you have a good week or two (like 2,500 - 3,000 miles for example) and things seem to be looking up you get slammed with a disaster week (like 1500 miles or less and a couple of 34-hour restarts). That is infuriating. I have been driving for Swift for nearly a year now and have almost nothing but bad things to say about them. You are not a person at Swift. Lose that notion for sure. You are a tractor number. Commit it to memory. In fact you ought to just change your name to your tractor number and make things easier!

You will be fine. The recruiter will get back to you. If he/she doesn't just keep calling. Get used to horrible treatment at Swift. What you are going through now with the recruiter is just the tip of the iceberg. Wait until you start driving and having to deal with the fact that you are no longer a human being. You are property of Swift. You will see that this is true, and understand, clearly, the first time you have to wait in your truck for a load for 24-48 hours. I'ts unreal how badly Swift treats its employees. Simply unreal.

Yes they go a lot faster....when you get a load! That's the problem: unbelievably erratic preplans and load assignments. Just when you think things may be looking up you have a total disaster week. Nobody at Swift is really looking out for you. It's all about hiring, hiring, hiring, so that they can have ooodles of drivers available to service their customers. If several of them get stuck for a day (or days) waiting for a load because there are a bunch or drivers in the area waiting for loads....do you really think they care? If you do you had better go see a really good phsychiatrist!
