The way I see it he has a few choices:
    1. Fix it right by possibly having it financed through the dealer he bought the truck from, or a business loan through his bank or carrier.
    2. Buy a used one box to buy him some time and save some money for the time being.
    3. Permanently "fix" the problem
    4. Get a second opinion
    5. Walk away, which will effect him the most negatively.

I had the exact same thing happen to my 2012 truck and I also drove for Landstar. The DOC filters go bad and they can't be replaced because they are built into the onebox. Freightliner said $12,000 for new onebox. I already put like $15,000 into repair. That was even after the Detroit Diesel did crazy amount warranty work on the engine. Because it had 600,000 miles parts and labor warranty on engine. The finance company did offer to pay for the repair and add it to my loan after truck was at Freightliner two weeks. Their was writing in the loan paperwork that basically says truck had to be keep in working order and if not after 14 days they could take the truck. I was current on payment. So once they had the truck. They really did not want the truck back. So they offered to pay for the repair add it to my loan. I did not think I could keep the truck running without another repair. Now I'm driving a company truck and not worrying about truck repair anymore.

he has already said he is tide up with credit and loans. the only choice is through the company financing the truck if landstar wont help.

    Hello.

I tell everyone getting in this game the truck is your life blood.

You're going to make a lot of money.

Hanging on to, and managing it correctly is part of this game as well.

I don't know how much freedom there is, but I like not having to deal with the sour grapes dispatcher or bean counter office manager.

In the spirit of this not wanting to fall victim to the same trap, or at the very least avoid it for as long as possible. What are the best legal practices to do to your truck to keep the aftermarket system happy for as long as possible? Does fuel choices matter if you're sticking to the big chains? Changing or updating certain parts?
