I did not know about the impediment. If it so, I am glad. Although, I always thought of it as impediment.

I'm expanding your vocabulary, Joe ;-)

Some of the insurance quotes I've seen posted by new entrants on TTR is frightening.

I wonder what the percentages are of new truck owners who lease on vs get own authority. Maybe 80% lease on?

Then, how many of those 80% end up getting their own authority? 20%?

I think this is a natural path of progress, from leased on to independent, and the ratios you are guessing feel that way too. As we all know, own authority does not guarantee better earnings but rather more decision room.

Joe I don't do that kind of work, I'm really much more local, but even when I see a load with an outrageous price, I always always always always try to get more.

I do my best to never do anything that will put me out of commission

No motorcycle riding no skiing no skateboarding ... I try not even to lift something heavy.

And always wear safety glasses in the garage.

Back when I was getting insurance quotes one lady told me she just signed somebody for $26,000 a year.

    Absolutely insane.

One thing we should all be thankful is how low fuel cost are. That combined with the higher spot rates is a win win situation.

I was looking at my overall fuel related costs in relation to my revenue averages this summer. Since we pay a weight mileage tax here in Oregon, which is where I do most of my business, I obviously have to include that in the fuel related line item as follows:
    1. Diesel
    2. DEF
    3. Oregon Road Tax

This summer my fuel related costs average is right around 17% of gross revenue. Which is a pretty decent % I think.

This auto lability insurance, plays as a similar role of an admission fee, a golf club membership fee, a property tax or a tariff - preventing an easy entry or access - despite its primary purpose being completely different.
Well, I pay for my Auto-Liability ($1 million), General Liability ($1 million) and Cargo($100 000): $7500 and then for Physical Damage and Theft: $1400 (Equipment valued at $45 000 both truck and trailer). All combined: $8900
It goes down a few hundred each year...no accidents, no tickets, no claims.
I am content with the agent I work with but perhaps I should try and do some insurance shopping this year.

Don't get me wrong, I do it too when I see what they offer - add a few hundred at least...that's easy peasy especially in a app where there is no chance to hear from them how greedy you are. LOL.

I was saying about a situation when a broker was calling and asking how much I'd it for on a lane of interest. I would not quote 5 dol per mile on a load over 1000 miles. At least not yet. Maybe I should...I don't know if it would work...just yet.
