It is! And you are still out here? No more firejumping? I'd love to catch up with you, have one of the mods forward a phone number or email address!
I miss MT terribly. I see you are still there...I'd move back in a minute but the company who I'm leased to doesn't run up there AT ALL....You know why, no freight coming out. Well, some- Smurfit Stone is still there in Missoula, isn't it? Gee, that must pay what, $.50-.60 a mile including fuel surcharge? It's a wonder you guys get anything in a truck at all...
I just read your original post, and I look forward to crossing your path! I am sometimes at Hill Brothers Santa Fe Springs terminal, not far from W/S. As I recall, that was the last place I saw you...If you can contact me I will make a point to hook up with you and treat you to dinner in LA!
I would ask you if you were interested in teaming, but you would never get home!Last edited: Oct 3, 2009

No. Watkins and Watkins & Shepard are two VERY different companies. I drive for Watkins & Shepard.
As for the doubles and hazmat endorsements that are required, I have not (in 6 years time) been required to pull doubles. The endorsement is a simple written test (30 questions, i think). The only hazmat we pull is fireworks.
It's been a good company for me, and I felt the 30-day school was top-notch. I've seen people come out of longer schools and extended stints riding with trainers who don't have nearly as much knowledge as our company's graduates do.
Keep it between the ditches,

Nope! Watkins Shepard is based in Missoula, they are not a new company and they have a flatbed division. I was leased to the flatbed side. They have 600 trucks, a truckload and LTL division. Flatbed hauls lumber and aluminum mostly for Kaiser and Alcoa. They also haul construction scaffolding which is real fun because it can go to right downtown NYC and you can double park legally to unload. Thats a joke by the way. I only delivered 1 load to NYC all the time I was there. We hauled a lot of moulding ( crown moulding etc for the inside of houses) to Baltimore and brass bars out of Baltimore Port. Most businesses didnt want you in their yard unless you had a big, shiny, largecar. Great company, nice people and Id go back but am disabled.

where can i find a number,to call a recruiter with watkins? thanks for any info.

Google Watkins Shepard and you'll find their numbers on their web site. Ask for Sandy or Roxy. They are swamped so it might take leaving a message and waiting for a return call.
