    How do you know they have cargo claims?
    There could be several reasons why company switch to another insurance carrier.

    Quarterly taxes you can pay easily with 1099.

    Generally speaking a person who is a "W2" is a regular status employee, which means he's not responsible for the fuel, maintaince, insurance, and other costs associated with the vehicle he drives. Inaddition companies often offer "W2" employees things like health insurance, 401K plans, in some cases profit sharing and other perks not offered to "1099 contractors", If your "1099" job can cover all that + what ever else life throws at you, then more power to ya:)

    That's a totally wrong assumption. When you work as 1099 you are still considered employee since you can't override federal and state law with internal agreement. Labor law do not care if you 1099 or W2. Those are tax reporting system. Even though if your employer violate the labour law and charge you for any repairs etc you still have the right to go to Labour Administration and file a claim. Labor administration won't ask if you 1099 or W2 they will fine employer and make him pay all unpaid salaries.
    If you 1099 you can easily establish health inusrance, 401k.

    What have I assumed wrong? The fact you work for someone does not necessarily make you an employee. Your status as an employee or contractor is something you and the party you do work for come to a formal agreement upon. It's not something you have to go to court to establish. Sure you can get your own insurance and 401K, the advantage to being a regular employee is the company will pay a portion of the cost of these benefits.

    Umm.. No. What makes one an employee vs. a contractor is defined by laws. Doesn't matter what the employer/employee want, its what the courts say. Take for example all the Uber type of employment suits, or even the Fed Ex lawsuit a few years back.
