Hypothetical question. I know we have super truckers in here that are in a dedicated winning lane with a broker. I have a dedicated winning lane at an egg farm but the load is only once a week.
Anyway, if your business has a 4 year contract with a broker, right? 80/20 winning lane, and the rate is between $3-$4. If your ex says, keep the business but I want half of your load income on that winning lane. So she gets half of your 80%, and you take home 40%. I know some states are different but why do we have to pay the ex a monthly income on her depreciated value? Cali is 20 years? Dr. Dre had to pay $400 million on his divorce and the ex is still wanting a $2 million/month payment??
So I might as well throw a dynamite and start over right? There’s no way I can survive 40% lol.
Can you lose your truck through Divorce?

Honestly best course is to talk to a lawyer. We can only guess, not give great advice. But if the business was started after marriage, and she is due half of it. See what asset/income of hers you are due half of as well. Say you want your half. Basically look at what she's got and you've got. Most likely you could buy her out of her half of the business but you'd probably need a loan to do that. The question is what value your company is deemed at.

Agreed 100%....best advise is to talk to a lawyer. What is determined to be equitable varies from state and state and divorce is included in the game of life. It is not going to be the same for everyone. Some folks pay more than others but they might have gotten else in return. Divorce is a negotiation. Spend the $ for a great lawyer.D.Tibbitt and Wasted Thyme Thank this.

I think divorce was meant as another tool to encourage the breakdown of the family. Italy got it right, you choose to have children, you are both responsible for the care of the children. There are no payments from one party to the other, no alimony, no stealing someone's retirement or business for that matter. Nothing radical about personal responsibility.

This is why you don't get married. You give the woman all the power when you get married, the juice isn't worth the squeeze.
