Who's The Worst Of Them ALL to work for?

rc mcentire in columbia s.c. is the scum of the earth in trucking. and i have drove 4 swift compare the 2 of them and swift seems like a gold mine. at r c mcentire you get paid salary600 a wk unload 28000lbs. /produce4 free w/a hand jack. work 95hrs a wk. no heat/air in your slip seat ragged truck.ive workd28days straight w 12 days off 18/22 hrs. a day .they make swift seem alot better.

 

With all those crook drivers out there i'd be asking for 2- 3 years experience too.

 

I went through their school and was placed with a mentor...
I was told that in 6 weeks I would be done-6 WEEKS if you are WORKING EVERY DAY(THEY "forgot" to tell us that IT'S NOT A NORMAL work week)My mentor is an interesting guy-he hates Swift and that's all I heard every day-something new about another FRIEND of his who got screwed by Swift(They fired 75 people a few weeks ago). He would not let me do a Pre-Trip inspection(ummm Okay Boss)
We had Mechanical problems and he would not check the truck in to the shop("takes too long for them to fix it") Finally he had to check it in for the problems(Busted wheel one week[that was fun to be driving with] and Smoke and odor a few weeks later)when the Truck was no longer needed(days that we were off)).
I figured that was probably pretty safe(I am being sarcastic).
He would not train me in certain things that I would need for driving 48 states (Thanks Boss) and He told me to check in on the truck and do a macro for the days that I was not working(that's how the 6 week program gets handled) "I'll leave the truck unlocked,just come in and do a Macro,when you're not working-payroll doesn't know".When I told him that I did not want to do that,he told me that I was an idiot and that "all of his students" did that.
I spoke with the woman at the training office about some things that I needed and she was a rude woman-who made some smart alec remarks to me...I would have taken that personally if I hadn't been warned about her.

I think that the Bottom line about Swift is that they just DO NOT care-because once you've been through their training, they have you by the balls.Because if you quit or get fired-you owe them that 4000.
I truly wish that I had that type of money(what is now left of that 4000 bill) so that I COULD quit.
I wish that I had a FUTURE to be happy about,but I just haven't seen anything positive about this company,so if I don't get fired(they seem to be doing a lot of that) I am stuck here for another several(13 total to pay off the "loan") months so that this loan gets paid off.
Thinking about leaving the country-ha,ha.

 

According to the poll numbers... Prime is far from the worst. Actually... it seems it is, by far, the best company on the list.

You can keep telling yourself (and others, apparently) otherwise if you want to though.

 

Last I checked... wages for newbies are not negotiable. If you don't like what a company is paying, you have to either go somewhere else... or work for McDonald's, I guess.

 

You said alot of people are getting into trucking because of the economic meltdown. That is true.

However, that being the case, these guys (including myself) aren't looking for "astronomical cash" as you say. We are just looking for a steady job... being that we have lost our last "steady job."

I am getting ready to go into a driver training program at one of the companies on the list... I should make somewhere between $35,000-40,000 in just the first full year as a Company Driver. That is not "astronomical cash", but it is alot better than I can make down at Burger King.

I have bills to pay, and I'll be ###### if I'm gonna let someone "shame" me for taking the free training and the job.

Also, when the economy turns around, there will be more freight that needs to be hauled... I call that job security. Where is the "fallout"?

 

I have never verified this but I have heard that it is perfectly legal for you to quit, go somewhere else...and not ever pay that $4000 back. Here's why: The government has already paid them for your training. That's how they were able to afford to do it. Supposedly if they actually take the time and money to sue you for it (which is seriously a toss-up because lawyers who are licensed to practice in every state are expensive and filing fees are not negotiable), all you have to do is show up for court and tell the judge that this was a government subsidized training program and it would be thrown out.

I have heard of many people who got their training from Swift or JB and quit right after training and went somewhere else for better pay and treatment. Take a chance...the worst that can happen is that two or three years down the road, Swift might try to sue you over the money...but I would lay #### good odds that they won't bother with an actual lawsuit and will instead send nasty letters which you can easily throw in the trash.

 

I voted other, but hands down it has to be KLLM out of Jackson MS.

 

Swift is a big carrier and they have lawyers on retainer. It doesn't cost them any more to sue you because they are already paying them. They will destroy your credit rating and they will hound you til you die for that money. Well, they won't hound you til you die because they can only report on your credit for 7 years. But there's always a good possibility they will drag you to court. If it's true that it's government subsidized you might be able to skate, but if you have good credit, they will ruin it because they can and will.
