I am going to go hook it up and turn the truck to see where the clearance is at.
-
247" wheelbase is no where near long try 320" now thats long as far worrying about clearance remove mudflap brackets and/or use the bracket that can be removed easily and remove them when hooked to trailer. I haven't pulled stepdeck but I do know what you mean by clearance I have pulled a many of pups where the 5th wheel had to be moved all the way back to keep from ripping the mudflap off
-
well I measured my clearance the closest that the corner of the mudflap gets to the support brace is 10"
so I figure that the longest kingpin to mudflap distance I go is 63" (58"+5")
which will leave me with 5" of clearance?
Am I on the right track? -
some trucks have a longer tail behind the axles as well so that can make a difference my step deck has a 10 ft topdeck and I wish it as an 11 so a 9 will likely make it run fairly long as I hve to run my 5th wheel 5 notches from the front (holland) my flap brackets clear but the flaps catch on the beam a little
-
FYI here is a fix for your mudflaps if clearance is an issue....I tore off 3 with a lowboy before installing this fix.... works great!!!

Andrew,
Why not buy single axle truck? Do you plan on hauling more weight then a single can handle? I thought you bought a light duty trailer.... Maybe your not still hotshotting...
Whats your plan? -
hey Craig
I am still hotshotting but wanted the tandems for future because I was going to go with a heavier duty trailer in a year or so, but it looks like with how my trailer is configured my only choice is go with a single axle truck. -
Go to Fresno Truck Center, they have a #### ton of single axles! With the current state of trucking and you being new, I would go buy a cheap truck (less then $20K) from them to run for a year and get a hang of it.
-
I agree with you the highest I will pay is $20k for a truck right now. I went on Fresno truck center's website but they didn't really have what I am looking for. the sleepers are to small but I will give them a call to see if they have anything else.
