I had a u joint come apart awhile back, the driveshaft then proceeded to take out a few airlines and wires. I have since fixed everthing except one of the wires. It is for the fuel guage. I am wondering how are fuel guages typically wired? I now have two wires, wire #1 has one end connected to the sending unit and the other end cut off, wire #2 has one end to a ground and the other end cut off. I have searched for where these wires should go but have no idea. I would guess one must go to a power source. Any ideas?

one wire goes to the post on the sending unit , the other goes to oneof the screws holding the sending unit into the tank or virtually to a ground

has to go to the tank as the tank is not grounded because of the rubber under the straps

Maybe I should just start from scratch here. Let's see, one wire from the tank to the frame for a ground. One wire from the sending unit to the gauge. Where is the power source going? To the gauge?

Could be wrong here but power comes from guage to sender unit and moves guage dependant of resistance through sender unit then earths to ground.
    Any help?

Ground out each wire to see which one makes the gauge work in the dash, when you find that one hook it to the post on the sending unit. Hook the other wire to one of the screws holding the sending unit in the tank.... done!!
