*sighs as I stomp to the board*
I made a decision today that I'm no longer going to tell anyone squat about Swift or anything else as I'm freaking tired of being chewed out for not saying Swift is a horrible no good kiss hiney jerk place to work.
I even told Baack I didn't think I'd respond to this. And then I remembered all the people on the forum who have....and continue to give me the gift of their knowledge. So here I am.
With a little note to anyone who decides to jump up here and yell at me about your bad experience with Swift. Big freaking boohoo.
To Aurora: Swift is a "training" company. This means they hire the newbies, the unskilled, untrained and train them......give them the foot in the door of the industry.
Swift has screwed some people. Some people have screwed Swift. Some people were crappy employess and instead of being honest they blame Swift. It's the whole buffet of reasons that people do not like Swift. What you and your husband must do is to research ALL your options and then make the decision that seems the best for y'all regardless of my opinion or anyone's opinions and experiences.
I can only tell you generalities and MY experience with Swift. Others will tell you their's.
I'm posting a quote from a post I made this morning to another thread
Now: I'm confused as to why you were told by Swift you would have to attend a non swift school. Did you perhaps ask them what schools they hire from? I purposely spoke to the head of the Academy at Phoenix last week due to someone else on this forum saying the schools had changed. Phoenix and San Antonio have not and the Swift School is still doing business as usual. So I'm not clear as to why your husband would have to attend somewhere else.
I like Swift, we're happy there and we're getting good miles and decent money. Other people aren't and still other people I know are very happy as well.
What specific questions to you have? And I'm sorry for my lousy attitude tonight.....it's been a long day.
I'm a newbie to the board with a few questions... :)

Texas-Nana...
I am so sorry if I upset you requesting information. I certainly would never badmouth swift to you, I was just told that you would give me honest and accurate information since so many people have unkind things to say about them.
To be honest, we are just as confused as to why the academy told us my husband had to go to AIT. He called and I was sitting right there and they told him he had to go to truck driving school before he could train with one of their drivers. When he inquired to their academy they said "Oh no AIT will teach you all of that." Perhaps the recruiter was new and didn't know any better, I'm not sure? On their website they say they have their own academy. Maybe the best thing for us to do would be to just drive up there and ask in person?
My husband is just a bit naive so I am the one who digs for info.
Another question I had was if you knew about how long you have to be an employee with Swift before they give you a dedicated run? Since we live so close to Casa Grande we were hoping if he signed with Swift, eventually he could get the Walmart DC runs. I was also just looking for some advice in general. Like maybe since you'd been through the training academy, if you knew of a good study guide? We have the AZ CDL manual and have been reading through it...But we weren't sure if it covered everything you'd need to know on the actual exam as the little questions at the end are kinda vague and don't cover much.
Again, I am so sorry for the trouble. Please, if this is a burdon don't feel obligated to respond. I certainly did not mean to offend. -
Now see......that is why I should NEVER let my temper show. LOL You didn't offend me in the least. I like to help people. I let someone else get under my skin yesterday and then it was a difficult run for me yesterday. You did NOTHING wrong and I am SO darn sorry if you thought I was fussing at you.
Yes I try very hard to be honest about Swift because I do know that some people have been burned by them. But they've treated me and my husband very well and especially me. The academy was awesome to me. I still go by and say hi to them when I can.
Let me call Lynn at the academy tomorrow and ask her okay? She's the woman with all the answers and frankly.....I think sometimes the recruiters are .......hmmmmmmm a couple of french fries short of a happy meal.
The dedicated fleet in Casa Grande is the fleet we're fortunate to be on. As to how long you have to be with Swift........I know people who've been wanting a dedicated fleet for a couple of years. We got on it in months and we didn't even ask for it......they came to us. We are blessed.
I will tell you this.....I will send you my contact info and you are welcome to call me. (no heavy breathing and don't ask me what I'm wearing
) I'll ask our fleet/terminal manager if it's possible to get your husband with a mentor on our fleet. I know we've got a couple. That's often a foot into a dedicated fleet. But............know this. Our fleet manager has things done HIS way or it's the highway. I know some people who do like him..............I happen to think he's the best boss I've had in decades. He's blunt, doesn't waffle, and he really does care about his drivers.
If you live in Casa Grande I may show up for breakfast one morning.
25(2)+2 and simplyred1962 Thank this. -

***Nana, here are some cookies, and pie for you. Is your hubby searching for that pointy stick to use on YOU??? LOL Sorry you had such a bad time yesterday!! {{{{hugs}}}} for Nana***
Aurora, as Nana said, research, research, and then reserch some more! And she is absolutely right....you will find bad/good comments about pretty much EVERY company out here. It's just a matter of what "fits" you and your hubby.
Good luck with your search!
Judi Kay
Texas-Nana Thanks this. -
pie! Pie solves all problems except for my wide load rear.
Someone probably needs to smack me a little with my own stick. LOL
-
LOL! Thanks so much Texas-Nana! It is so funny you use that term "a few french fries short of a happy meal" because that is one of my favorite expressions.
Thank you so much for all of your help!!! You are truly awesome! We live in Arizona City, but close enough to CG.
LOL don't worry, I won't try and solicit you into phone sex
.
My husband has no problem with strict managers...He was a residential construction plumber for years and is used to that kind of thing. He is one of those guys that will not stop until the job is done and it is done correctly. He's also very passive so he isn't mouthy or disrespectful.
I have him trained well lmfao

*chokes on my diet coke # phone sex* Okay I have to say.........you certainly fit in on this forum and with Judi Kay and I. *snickers* That's not actually good ya know?
I spoke to my recruiter and he said y'all can call him but he's going on vacation starting today. He returned my call cause.......well.........I'm so sweet. *coughs and tries to look honest*
He said the only reason he could think of that you were told that is because the classes are so small and it's a wait for them currently. Are y'all in a rush to get him in school? I'll pm you his name and don't hesitate to call me if you need anything else. Otherwise the academy is certainly going on. -
Thought you said you was gonna be quite on this thread...
-
LOL it is good to know I am among friends!
Whenever you get a chance, please do PM me your recruiter's information. How long is he going to be on vacation for so we know when to call him back?
We are not in a huge hurry no, but would like to get him into training sometime in the next month or so. Any idea how long the wait is?
Thanks again for all of your help Texas-Nana, I really appreciate it!!!Texas-Nana Thanks this.
