The "old tight spots" we encountered never seem so bad now. Older the memory, less fear it was.

I think running empty on that hill just might have exceeded the manufacturers maximum suggested tolerances. I'm guessing that they were spinning out while you were climbing?

Yes made a running attempt , spun at the top. So we slid back down and made attempt number 2 . Made it to the very top started spinning and stopped. So put it in 5th gear and worked the clutch the rest of the way up, almost stalled out but kept her going in the low rpms and lugged it up the hill.

Simplicity.. Red Owl Warehouse in Minneapolis. Cold, IH L195 gas, unloading FL fruit... Just before empty.
5 gallon metal bucket, 2 red clay brick. Slosh gasoline from the putt-putt's gas can on the brick in
bucket, toss in match. Slide the assembly in under the oil pan. By the time gas burned out, that Esso #5
50 wgt had softened enough for the engine to spin. Wind her up and head for Grand Forks for potatoes.
Pay Red River Ford $10 next nite to put tractor inside.Zero'ish + or - 10 degrees.
