My belief is protect the elderly, enforce proper protocol for others, either at work, school or play.
Those protocols are all well known by now. The need is for our society to get moving and to work through this. Sitting on our arse and waiting for a vaccine or hope that the wind blows it away, is leading us to ruin.
Here's a report, although more than six weeks old.

Two-hundred-and-forty-two Albertans have died from COVID-19 as the province passes the six-month mark since the province’s first confirmed case linked to the global pandemic. There has also been a total 712 hospitalizations with 133 admitted to the ICU, as of Thursday.

The average age for someone who dies of the novel coronavirus is 83, while the average age of those hospitalized sits at 62, although that number drops to 61 for those who receive treatment in intensive care.

For a province of nearly 4.5 million to currently have 116 hospitalizations, including 16 in ICU tells me its not nearly as bad as everyone's making it out to be.

That's just it. Between misinformation, lack of information and manipulation by the authorities, half the world has turned to chicken littles.
Just back from a trip to Calgary last week. Twice a day forgot the mask in the pickup. Do the walk back for it. No big deal. Just don't need more of this full scale shutdown stuff.

Quebec has 18,500 healthcare workers test positive since March and many are just leaving their profession or taking leave of abscence. Certainly not worth the risk for PSW's or anyone. Quebec no doubt will have military health assistance again as their #'s start to soar again.
My area we have 109 cases since March which is squat considering the area and population however we don't second guess healthcare advice.
Spanish Influenza had second wave and masks were mandatory in public during that pandemic. They learned from the first wave.

Common sense approach says it's sort of like keeping up the preventative maintenance on your truck.
Not complicated to follow the program. Calgary implemented a mask rule in all places of business. no problem in the parking lot and just be covered when the door is entered. No problem.

Like you I live in a quiet area and we have about 70 cases now in a 80K radius and most are concentrated 60 K south of here. The optometrist was the only occasion masking was required here. Go to the cities and the problem and risks obviously increase.

I refuse to enter a business that makes me wear a mask. I'll suck it up for groceries or the odd time I need parts for my truck and that's it. I haven't spent a dime on anything else in months.

Funny, locally here it's Walmart and Winners that made it their policy. No skin lost here on that.

In AB it's the public health officers policy and the business has no choice. Good ol Princess, Crappy Tire and so on. No choice

I used to despise online shopping but I think I'm going to start doing it. I don't have the patience to jump through hoops to be a customer in a store. I have too much self-respect and pride to stand in a lineup outside a store like a good little comrade as well.
