I've said this before, but it's still applicable: I accept that challenge. I don't believe charging users $250-$500 for a GPS or $50-$100 year for an app subscription is necessary to build a great service. We'd rather give our users everything for free and only earn money from advertising when drivers apply to jobs on our job board. The success of that free model on TruckersReport is why we have 1.1m+ users per month coming to the site and how we have the ability to develop the Hammer app.
We're the new kids on the block, and out the gate we're not going to have all the features of a $250-$500 GPS unit or some of the paid apps, but we're going to steadily get better and have found a number of ways to improve on what's currently out there.
A test of Hammer version 1.5 is rolling out to beta users in the next few weeks, and it will roll out to everyone in March after the beta testers help identify and squash the bugs. It's a positively huge improvement in every aspect of the app. With more major updates in April and May that take Hammer beyond the capabilities of hardware gps devices, I think ebay is going to see a lot of used GPS units getting dumped.

No worries, thick skin comes standard at TruckersReport! The threads on the forum are tech support threads, and people post here because they’ve encountered a problem, so it paints an unhappy picture. What keeps us moving forward is the thousands of users who are using Hammer as a regular part of their job, so we know we’re on the right track, even if everything is taking twice as long as we want it to.

Over time with added features and bugs fixed it will give every driver reason to never buy a Rand or Garmin. Most carry a smart phone and mount to dash.
Bridgette HAMMER and Admin Thank this. -
