Yes high protein in the urine will fail you on a physical been there done that. I'm on the once-a-year check due to high blood pressure medication. If you get a medical examiner that thinks she is the savior of public safety and that she knows more than your doctor you will get knocked off the road for a few days to your fight your way back on with documentation and running around. Some medical examiner's have common sense a huge portion do not they just read the book and drink the Kool-Aid and should not have a license. It's all about the over-regulation of trucking which Trump promised that he would help with and has not. An example would be I also failed the five foot whisper test for hearing which also put me off the road even though I had $5,000 hearing aids and can hear fine at a conversational level. She told me to go have my hearing aids adjusted and when I did the hearing aid guy looked at me and said is she crazy or something? I went back and told her I had them adjusted and cleaned and she said okay after taking me off the road for nothing. So after all this I found out that you can be profoundly deaf and still drive a truck with a waiver from the FMCSA. Of course as governments are it takes them 6 months to give you a worthless piece of paper but then you can drive with it. I did this proactively because I knew that I would be running into medical examiner's without common sense. I don't know if there's a waiver for high protein in the urine because my struggles with the FMCSA in questions were not answered I have to do further research because it looks like that's going to be an ongoing problem as well. Very frustrating hope this help somebody.

A thought to hearing aids. I am a deaf trucker OTR myself. Hearing aids is all the difference for telephone or face to face conversing etc (And music and everything else)

Covenant had me in their Orientation mid Jan of 1996 after I got off the greypuke bus that was facing a winter storm that got epic. The bus driver was seriously excellent on ice with that thing even though I did not sleep a wink monitoring his RPM, Braking and steering the whole trip.

In the orientation, the medical doctor stood me against a wall in their room with 50 other orientation people and staffers loudly asking and answering questions. I heard the whisper but not enough to overcome word comprehension by percenate so I failed his whisper test. I told him No effing wonder *Sweeps arm across entire room with 50 magpies chattering away its not going to be good in this situation.

I produced a week old Ear chart from my audiologist back home in Maryland. (Maryland Hearing Aid Service under Fenema MD, Retired) for all of my life since 5 years old.) and the Covenant doctor laughed it off as BS. Maybe I point to his ink jet board cert on the wall and laugh THAT off as BS. See what happens then.

I was kicked out at noon and on the bus by 3 going home. My records all are clean with one exception. Covenant and the failed Orientation. They are one of 15 carriers who maintain DAC-like records on every driver forever and ever. DAC clears your record after 10 years by law. to this day I am persona non grata to Covenant. And have no problems explaining that FMCSA reviewed my incident with Hearing chart and so forth.

The FMCSA ruled that Covenant or any trucking company MAY BE STRICTER than Minimum DOT requirements to hire a driver. In other words it's a legal form of discrimination when they choose not to hire hearing aid people. What's next not hiring glasses wearing people? It's all the same.

My lawyer fumbled the ACA suit against Covenant which if it went through would have awarded me a good amount of money. But paperwork buried Lawyers staff for a little bit too long to dig out before the Limitations passed us by.

To this day I only know of myself and two other Deaf people being involved in trucking in some form. Actually make that three. The third was issued a tanker water truck, point to the city water tower in the area. Fill it up and then spread it on the dust of the new parking lot being constructed at the Atlanta Motor Speed way. It would have been a class B for him by weight. But since it was all private property there is no problem.

When a trucking company says my hearing aids are BS, I educate them on discrimination. Most of them learned something and backed off me And no problems. There are a few however who discriminated against me due to my handicap. I tell you this. If I never had something in life on my body I never miss it. If you were born without a hand you don't need a second hand. You are working around life as well as you can. It is not a handicap to have one hand only. Now, if I lost a hand it will be really bad because like most anything I rely on them to communicate to a interpreter or another deaf person or people (Plural) It would certainly be a handicap for me.

Im out of trucking due to being a medical patient. Ive had many surgeries dating from 2005 on. The cataract surgery in 2009 was really important. IF it had no cure or was botched somehow I would have to consider end of life because to exist when blind as a deaf person meaning there is no freedom at all. Literally live free or die.

Ive got a couple more surgeries to do relatively quickly but when they are all done and fixed I will show up and get a medical card myself and we will see how it goes approximately 12 to 14 months from now.

No! It won't. However, it is a sign of Glycosuria and the ME should then do a blood check to determine what your blood sugar level is. Most of the answers to this question can be found here starting on page 173. For the average person, sugar will start spilling into the urine with blood sugar levels in the 160 to 180 levels.

I am retired now. I maintain an A1C in the 5.8 to 6.3 range now and have done so for several years. It stinks, but it is what it is. I use both Lantus and Novolog insulin for control. I have to avoid wild swings in my blood sugar levels because this causes seizures. In fact, about 3 weeks ago I was at my bank after eating oatmeal for breakfast. My blood sugar spiked too quick and I had a serious tonic-clonic seizure and almost was put in the hospital. It seems like every time I get one of those things I lose a little bit of my sanity. Diabetes is not something to be screwing around with. If you have this disease PLEASE get it under control!!!!!

Of course, the test strips are cheap. There is no pass or fail here. Just a quick way to test for the presence of sugar in the urine. If sugar is found then they go deeper. I remember a physical I got in Dallas Texas way back in the late 90s. The regent strips showed a trace amount. The M.E. was OK with it and gave me a 2-year card.
