We have been running two years now and we are currently trying to get own own authority so that we can still have the truck running. My question is , Is if we already have our own Dot# and insurance can we trip lease or lease with someone for a short period of time until we become active with our authority , number etc.

    I don't think so.

@brian991219 would probably be able to give you more information.

Yes you can lease to a carrier while in the process of getting your own authority. You will need to display their name and US DOT number on the truck and cover your DOT number (if it is already on the truck). A trip lease would be your best bet as most carriers won't want you to lease on for only a few days while waiting on your own authority.

Your insurance is irrelevant as is having a US DOT number for leasing. It sucks to be paying for the insurance and not able to use it but that is the trouble with the waiting period to get your authority.
