    Good point,
The 53 reefer I pull and the tractor scales out at 44600 empty with full tanks! And that is with a Crapcadia....

The fifth wheel slides on the new truck are notches, shorter intervals than the holes, and good for maybe 150 to 175 lbs. per notch. It's a Cascadia, shorter sleeper, though not as short as the lightweights Prime has and a wheelbase in the 216 inch range. The tractor on all steel wheels with twin 120s and a 23 gallon DEF tank with no idle reduction strategies and hooked to a Great Dane Super Seal XLT or Utility 3000 scales at 34,600 to 35,300 empty.

Got red lighted on my pre pass at both Virginia scales on 81. Bypass lane in Winchester and directed onto the platform in Roanoke. Seemed like an eternity before I got the green light lol! Got the pre pass green in Tennessee and Arkansas. No open scales in Texas.

The shorter your wheelbase, the more pronounced the effect of sliding a fifth wheel, or axles, will be.

I'm guessing he meant he could only haul 44,600?

I work for the same outfit, the tractor and 53ft reefer we have a big post liftgate and an electric pallet jack on there that's why it weighs so much!!!

Here's a formula I use that works every time. Subtract the smaller weight from the greater weight and divide by 250 if they are 4 inch holes or 350 if they are 6 inch holes. Then divide that number by 2. That number will tell you how many holes to slide the tandems. Toward the greater weight of course.

If I move 5th wheel one hole forward can I adjust that out with tandems or do the tandems only adjust on or off drives ?
