this might be asking to much, but what are the chances of getting a NON-SMOKER for a trainer, is there many out there?

    Hi River Runner,

We're the same age so I think that might have something to do with our thinking being along the same lines. I am completely burnt out on the banking and finance industry and just looking for a career/life change that I can focus on and learn to be good in, as I have always done. I've been self employed for the last 20 years or so, and I plan to drive for a year or so to make sure that I want to be self employed again and at that point buy a truck or do a lease somewhere if it makes sense. I would likely only do that if I got a buddy of mine to Team with me, since it appears from reading this forum for a yhear or so, that everyone pretty much says no go for a Lease unless you are a Team. Others have said if you lease, at a minimum, become a trainer. So, we'll see. I'm going to make my decision in the next 30 days. Yours and others posts have been helpful.

Everyone's situations are at home. All I can do is speak about ours. We lost our house in June my car in may. And with 2 girls age 11 and 7 $400 a week we will never get back out on our own. Living in Atlanta there just is no job market at all for me right to help contribute to the bank account. People put out an ad and 2000 plus people show up for 1 or 2 positions it is insane. Anyway 1bad was offered a job in Ft Worth doing what he is passionate about and can triple his bring home on a easy week. Cost is living is much cheaper there and no state income taxes. This is one offer that we just can't pass up at this point and time in our life. We have been looking online at house out there and we can get double the house for less money than here so in actually I may be able to continue to stay home and be an active parent for our kids (what I love doing, hate the thought of some stranger in a daycare influencing my kids. Selfish maybe but that's how I feel!) Anyway he will stay on with Central until our oldest is out of her cast (2 weeks) and hopefully she won't need any PT then off to Tx he goes and we will follow the week between Christmas and New Year's. Let the kids finish the semester here and have the holidays with all the grandparents before the big move. Ok enough rambling just thought I would let everyone know exactally why 1bad made the choice to leave. It is really hard for him out there not getting to see his family on a daily basis. Knowing that he is missing out on the best time of their lives. Having always been around to enjoy life with them it is very hard on him. I think it would be for anyone with little ones. We knew this was not going to be a life long job when he took it. Much like alot of truckers out there we needed income. Now that this other oppournitiy has presented itself we have to take it and run in hope's of a new and better life for our family. Bottom line! I hope no one thinks he is leaving b/c of central. Yes, like everyone else he has had his issues with them but for us this is a choice to be a healthy family unit to increase our girls potential for success. As for 1bad I couldn't ask for a better father for my kids he did this for them and has realized the time has come to be back with them and provide even more than he can for them with this new job. And in my book that takes one heck of a man to admit!!!!!!!:biggrin_25514:

I do not think anyone blames him at all.
He has a marketable skill, and if he can find somewhere to use it in todays economy that is great.

When I got my CDL at 21 I had no idea what I wanted to do with my life. I just wanted to learn a skill that would be marketable at all times.
I drove for a few years, saved some money and went to college for 4 years. Thinking at the time that I was done with driving.

I tried to find work in that field for a while and worked in related fields for several years. But when the time came that my wife wanted to go get her masters degree and we needed more income, I went back to driving.
She has been done with that for a few years now. But here I am. This is still the place I have the most earning potential living where I do, and my wife is not moving.
She has a good job, and makes about the same money I do. Lucky for me.
She makes enough that all that is needed from me is about 300 a week, so that all the bills are covered. Was less before, she likes buying things.

When I went to work for Central her income was enough to pay all our bills.
But she managed to spend every dime I made, and did not save any.
Even though I had asked her to save it.
At my next job all my pay will go into my acct. That way I can transfer what is needed each week, and no more.
So we can actually start to pay off some debt. I am all for living at or below my means. Mostly below. My wife likes to live above our means.

So, that is my story lol
You should just be glad that you and 1bad have a relationship where you are both on the same page. My wife and I get along much better when we see each other no more than 2 days a week. More than that and I go nuts.
But we have too much debt to change that, and she knows if we pay it down most likely we will each end up single. And if I were single I would be on the road constant for 5 years. That would get all my debt paid off. And have a rather large acct to work with. 10 years and I would retire to hauling local with a dump. With a nice little house in the woods and an old ford in the drive.

Like you, I see we approach decisions with mature wisdom. This obviously is not a "get rich quick" scheme. It is however, a worthwhile profession that requires a large amount of professionalism and critical thinking.

Anyone who has been self-employed must realize that there is a large "overhead", both financially and administrative. At some point it is easier just to "fly the mission".

Well I am sitting her in the LA, CA Greyhound terminal. I am connected to my laptop via cellphone and I must say that 3G speeds are not bad at all! It's clearly slower than cable...but MUCH faster than non-3G. If only AT&T had 3G more places. :( Should be in San Bernardino at 9am....then i'll be sleeping in a bed!

Jess and some of the others should be able to answer that question for you concerning Central specifically. In general tho, it seems that most companies use that as a criteria for training. Putting non smokers with non smokers. Now when you upgrade, that will be a totally different story. The truck I got was run by a HEAVY smoker and it took me forever to get the smell out.
