Hypothetical question, the auction I've been watching is getting much less attention then I anticipated. If you had the chance to buy 4 fleet maintained 2015 freightliners dd13 10sp sleeper trucks all with ~525k miles for $2-3k total for all 4 trucks. That would be a solid buy right? They have to be worth more than that in scrap right?

each truck would probably bring 4 to 6 at a wrecking. More parting it out on your own

Here in Maine it is possible to go to your local Department of Motor Vehicles and obtain a temporary paper license plate. Presuming the vehicle passes an inspection, you the resident of Maine would have to show proof of insurance. The State of Maine then issues the resident this plate that is good for 10 days. The plate is only good from place of purchase to your home. It is supposedly not valid for regular use (tho locals often do). Temporary plates are around $30

I have done this twice in the last two month, and looking for more customers. First one was Little Rock to Dallas (Oct 16th & 17th). Second was (Dothan AL to Dallas) Nov 3rd-Nov 5th. Both times I ran on dealer plates. Legally if you do not have dealer plates, you need a Hunter's Permit or temp registration plate, and Insurance. You will also need IFTA fuel permits for each state that you are traveling unless you have an IFTA sticker. These are the legal requirements. Some people say you need a log book. You can carry one but it's legally not required because you don't fall under the DOT regulations for a commercial vehicle. You are a NON-Commercial vehicle in Personal Conveyance. With all that being said, there are many people that just run with insurance and a bill of sale, you might get more flack for not having the IFTA fuel permits then you will for not having a temp registration.

Those two statements conflict. Either you are a CMV (which you are, unless registered as a personal vehicle, e.g. RV, but that's a whole other can of worms and always possible) and you need IFTA, or you are not a CMV and don't need IFTA. A non-CMV would not need IFTA.

Actually any vehicle that used diesel and has 3 or more axles regardless of weight has to have an IFTA sticker or temp IFTA fuel permits. IFTA is not just commercial vehicles.
