After listening to a web show about newbie drivers I am wondering about my license suspensions from back in the old days.
Florida used to have a stupid law that required insurance companies to notify the state if you didn't renew with them. Florida had no rules in place for the new company to notify the state that they had picked you up! I had to get that straightened out. That was 1983 or so.
Then in 1990 I got a letter stating my license was suspended for "making an election in Collier county when I was ineligible." I got that notice on a Friday afternoon. I got the county on the phone and said "what the heck is this?!!!" "I didn't vote! And why would voting affect my driver license?!!"
The nice lady told me I elected to take defensive driving class less than 12 months from the last time I took it. (I had a ticket in July '98 and one in December of '90.) I told her there was a mistake! I got that taken care of on the phone.
Evidently the insurance companies go way back looking for DUI's, and suspensions.
I wonder if I should contact Florida about whether these have been wiped off my record. After all these were the state's screw ups.

I would see if they were taken off and if not make sure you explain in the explanation column on the app.
They ask for one anyway. -
Florida is good about screwing up records! I know! It took me most of last summer to get a charge corrected and it was a good thing that the lady who helped me knew what had happened back in the 70's! In fact I didn't even know that they had me down for one thing which was actually real bad when the actual charge was a slap on the wrist! I found out when I got a "DAC" report sent to me when a company did a DAC report on me! Was I bowled over!
Good Luck

It used to be only a handfull of companies had lifetime DUI bans, but it seems with so many drivers looking for jobs, many have jumped on board with this policy. My neighbor, who just went through school has just given up and went to work for Target. He had a DUI and suspension for another reason in the early 90's and no one will touch him. I feel bad because he owes like $5k for school. I thought something was fishy when even USA told him no. Almost 20 years later he is a responsible guy with a wife and kid, people do change. I guess in this economy these companies can be choosey. I think he did the right thing by being honest, it would be awful to get canned, if they found out later.

Yup, the state of Florida is just peachy with driver's licenses. Whatever brainac was doing data entry there in Tallahassee put one digit incorrectly and that caused my husband's CDL to be suspended. His license number was a SINGLE digit diff from what was supposed to suspended. He didn't know until a scale house in MN and then he to play the waiting game to get FL to admit they screwed up.
