    Hello Everyone
I'm new here as you can see. I was an OTR driver for 12 years about 10 years ago. I left driving to take a shot at management, was successful at it for the most part. I since have moved to Nebraska have been here a year and can't find anything close to the jobs I had in California and Colorado, especially the pay its just horable here. The driving jobs here do pay alot more than the non-driving jobs. Anyway I have been reading some of the post about these DAC reports and wonder if I should get one whether I think the companies that I worked for reported anything to them or not? The other thing that I am kinda worried about is the past 10 years being away from driving is that going to kill me or will an employer at least look at my 12 years? I have pulled MVR'S from all the states that I held CDL'S in all are clean. I have done some driving over the 10 year period just nothing that can be used as employment, it was just some driving to keep the skills up. Any Advise would be greatly appericated.
    Thank You

Hey OldSchool. I'll start this off by saying that yes, I think you should get a copy of your DAC -- just for your own peace of mind. You are entitled to a free copy, and it doesn't hurt you to know what's on there since the companies you apply to will see it -- remember, knowledge is power, and if there's anything 'questionable' on there, you will be able to address it in advance. Odds are, there is nothing negative, but it's always best to be sure.

As far as being away from driving for 10 years, you will probably need to take a refresher course before a company gives you your own truck. Check into some of the better companies out there and see what they offer, they will let you know what you need to do. I believe Roehl has a refresher course if you have your CDL but haven't driven in awhile, check out their website for more info.

I'm sure the more experienced drivers will chime in with more info as soon as they get time to get online, but until then, I just thought I'd put in my .02.

    Best of luck to you.

    Thanks KeeLady
I will go ahead and get a copy of the DAC report. I just never heard of anything like that until now. I wonder how long companies have been reporting to this DAC and how long do they retain the records?

Hey oldschool, I was in the same boat. Came back to trucking and never grandfathered to get my CDL. It would not have mattered anyway because I was off the road to long and companies would not hire me because of insurance reasons. I had to go to a truck driving school to get back in. Anyway I know a O/O from your neck of the woods that was looking for a driver. He wanted someone to team with and someone to run solo with his truck as he has a newborn on the way and wants to stay home more often. He runs 48. PM me with your details if you are interested and I will see if he is still looking for a driver. Good luck! Keep us posted.:) MJ
