Thank you all for all of your input. It has provided perspective that I was looking for. I'm hoping to meet with the powers that be during the first half of this week to see what the deal is, or if there is one.
The flatbed director has already offered me back a company position (repeatedly for months lol) and has encouraged the possibility of the truck purchase, but the owner is the guy who makes the deals.
Freight is steady. Rates are decent but not amazing. They average 5k a week linehaul revenue most weeks. That's regional and home usually 2 nights a week. The option to run more is certainly there. Other owner ops are getting 89% but I haven't seen it in writing myself.
What are the biggest questions and concerns I should be having here when I meet? I need to make myself a list or I'll miss things I need to know
Considering buying a truck

The western star is the truck I want. It was my baby when I was company there. That being said, I can't use my attachment as a reason to overspend or make a poor choice in purchasing a truck.
So, in line with that, I need opinions on one other truck. I know this one is for sale, and I've driven it, but I don't know much history.
2011 Mack CHU613 flat top. MP8 at 500hp, Eaton 13spd, 40k rears, 400k miles, overall in clean condition visually minus a bent bumper. Ex Venezia truck.
Cons:
single fuel tank
Modified "against forum policy"
Bent bumper
Pros:
Clean
Lower miles
Listed for sale for less than 30k
I know nothing about macks... Should I inquire on this lower mileage larger bunk truck? Or run from the low price tag and unknowns? -

I would not wish a Mack on my worst enemy, then again, I drove real Mack’s, not heavy spec’d Volvos.....
cjb logistics, Dino soar and Samarquis Thank this. -
Well I think if you drove the truck yourself and you know for certain that that is a new engine and they're going to continue the warranty over to you, then I think you're on the right track.
Just really pay somebody to go over that whole truck and make sure the brakes drums the cams the bushings pull the plugs on the rears and check for chunks of metal and the transmission check all the seals U-joints universals, everything.
Make sure there are no cracks under the in the frame take a good look under where the fifth wheel plate mounts and make sure there isn't heavily rusted Jacked between there.
Have them check the front end kingpins all of it and you probably should do an oil sample and I guess even a dyno too.
Make sure no engine seals are leaking water pump is okay exhaust is good clutch fan works etc etc check that the AC works and the heater and everything in the bunk and the whole nine yards.
But I really think you are on the right track.Samarquis Thanks this.
