Blown02gt, If you get popped driving a CMV with a CDL but no current medical card, you are, in essence, driving a CMV without a valid license. Your CDL is not valid unless you have a current medical card, IN ANY STATE.

yeah man.. i guess i should have clarified.. i haven't driven without a medical card.. i just wasn't driving at the times my license came up for renewal and they have never asked for any physical or medical info, but that is here in Ohio.. maybe it's different here or they just forgot to ask.. i don't know
-
Unless your getting your initial license (taking the actual driver skills test) you dont need to present your med card. Unless its some wierd Cali law.

this happened to me two years ago, my card was 3mos. expired and I didn't realize it. Went to clinic next day, got it renewed, only the company and the DOT officer who caught it, and myself knew it was expired, DMV never knew about it. the only reason I found out was I got stopped for a random roadside inspection in Wyo. by a trooper and his trainee, when I handed him my paperwork, etc., he said "do you know your medical is expired" I told him No, he showed it to me and I about cried. I had forgotton all about it. He wrote it up on the inspection but otherwise let it go, I was 250 mles from home and headed that way.

I was asked for my card for the first time this year, in MS.
Not sure if it was directly related to the Hazmat endorsement or not. But they have never asked for it in previous years...also hazmat endorsed. -
That's just not true. It depends on the state but most will only require the medical card IF you're driving a CMV. I've renewed my CDL for the past 9 years since I've retired with no medical anywhere. My state does not require the card unless I come off retirement and go back in a truck. So the best advice given here is check the state.

It is true.
If you are driving a CMV that requires a CDL without a valid medical card, it is like not having a valid license just as he stated. -
Yes Gas Hauler, you can renew your CDL without a medical card, but,as I stated, it's not valid unless you have a current medical card while driving a CMV. Of course, you can drive a 4 wheeler without a medical card.
-
Not if you live in AZ. If your medical card expires and you do not get a new one and get a copy to MVD, then your CDL will be revoked!
-
That is true there, and a couple of other states.
Not true for the majority.
