Hey everyone! I just registered but I've been lurking the boards for some time now. I've been interested in trucking since HS. I'm 21 yrs old now and serious about starting my career.

Okay, basically I have not a clue to which company to start out with. I've researched a bunch of companies, Millis, Roehl, Schneider, CR Eng, Werner, Swift, CRST, etc, etc. They all sound good until I read all the stuff on here, etc. etc. I know theres always guys who have a problem with everyone, but I guess I don't know what to think. Nobody in my family is in trucking, really nobody I know, so thats why I've come here. Only truck driver I've ever talked to suggested I check out Millis, thats it.

The main reason I want to be a trucker is to see the country, that's seriously it. I've left WI once in my life!! I really, really want to get out of Milwaukee, thats another big one, I just want to get outta dodge so to speak. I don't even care about money, I'm not going to work for free, but if I take a pay cut, so be it. I doubt it will be much though, I only make $12/hr at my current job.

    Main things I'm looking for:
    - lots of loads heading West and Canada
    - good equipment/new trucks
    - at least a decent amount of miles, I want to be driving
    - good training, I don't have my CDL and it would be ideal if I could get with a company that trains. btw, I have a spotless record in every facet.

    - I do NOT care about hometime, the longer I'm out, the better.

thx for reading, any and all help/advice is greatly appreciated.

Hey check around the forum for some of the companies you listed because they seem to be a topic. I advise you not make a decision based off what you read though. Anyways there's some great info about which would be a great starter company.

Hope you get trucking soon as I...

Best of luck and be safe Kix....

Having worked in many trucking yards, the big companies wont take you till age 23. However, you can still get the license and drive for smaller mom and pop businesses like tree trimmers and construction companies. You can also do yard switching and agriculture driving for farmers in state. Just to have the license can help you in the warehouse were they need someone to move the trailers around at a moments notice when the drivers arent around.
