we have a we little wabasto in our truck. It is in the side bunk door.
It fires up for a second, then shuts down. Then the light on the control knob flashes one flash, then five quick flashes.
Is this a fault code?

I hear ya. We have only had the truck since april. we never stay away over nite, but it was nice on those cold nites to let it run, so the truck was nice and warm come morning.
But I am certain we won't be paying $750 to get it fixed. -
What you have is probably and AIRTOP 2000. Your code is for failure to ignite. Basically the burner pad is carboned up enough it has become too dirty to support combustion. Install a complete burner kit. The kit will come with a new flame sensor, glow plug and gaskets. Should only take about an hour to repair. Webastos are one of those things the more you use it the longer it will last. The smaller units really dry out over the summer and fuel seems to gum up and leave residue on the burner pad when they aren't used for long periods of time. Those first couple of uses in the fall turns all those impurities to carbon and ruins the pad. Guys who use their units even during the dog days of summer never have problems. The more you use it the longer it stays clean.

A few of the reasons why they can be so expensive to repair is because a lot of techs don't know much about them. AirTops are pretty simple. The burner gets carboned up and also ruins the glow plug and flame sensor at the same time. Just install a complete burner kit with the glow plug and flame sensor as a complete kit and be done with it. It gets expensive when you remove the unit, find the burner pad plugged, try to clean it, reassemble, test, still doesn't work, remove unit again, replace only burner, reassemble, test, still doesn't work, remove unit, replace glow plug and flame sensor, reassemble, now it works! Too much screwing around for nothing. I have seen some really bad installation jobs where for some reason it was installed with absolutely no thought about servicing and it takes 2 guys to remove it and an hour just to get to it! If they are installed with servicing in mind you can remove one in 2 minutes, replace the burner and sensor in 15 mins and back together in 5. Done! Also, here is a general tip for everyone, if you want your repair bill to be as cheap as possible, TAKE OUT YOUR OWN PERSONAL STUFF!!! I understand you live in your truck, but if I have to move a bunch of your personal belongings to repair something in your truck then you are paying me $100 an hour for something your could have easily done yourself!
