Clutch R&R questions

I should add:
I worked with techs that only replaced clutches by putting them on the input shaft and bolting them to
the flywheel after bolting the transmission in place. There was never a problem with this method.
Its probably easier if your doing it without a helper.

 

If you can rig it up with the jack that would be a great back saver.

I have never seen a clutch not assembled properly from the manufacturer. Just verify the exposed disc says flywheel side on it.

 

If you put the pilot bearing in the flywheel you will be able to use the pilot shaft and jack to
set the flywheel in place as well.

Before you stab it in, make sure your install shaft slides in and out like butter. Put little bit of grease on pilot bearing area of shaft and end of splines. Slip it back and out. Look in hole with a light. If its going all the way, you will see grease impression of spline ends on pilot bearing your good. If not start over, disc's aint lined up.

The lock trans in gear so you can spin yoke as you push it in.

We may have crossed paths, not sure. After wrenching for Uncle Sam, I attended UNOH in the fall of 2004. Spring of 2005, Uncle Sam decided I needed another tour of Iraq. I returned to UNOH in spring of 2006 and graduated in spring of 2007. Doubled up on classes to shorten my stay. I seen in one thread you commented that you loaded in one of the same steel mills as my uncle.

 

Ah ok, good to formally meet you. I finished down there in 2001. Yea, half the year you might find me slumming around dirty steel mills. You ever need anything, just let me know Sir.
