Did you get the 2,000 lb low pro jack? This one seems alright, but I hate the plate. The mounting hardware that came with it was useless, so I didn't use it, and it's impossible to keep this tranny from sliding around. I've got two straps on it. I had to use my cherry picker to reposition it on the jack, and I had it on there perfect. Straps nice and tight, thought I was good to go. Then when I was barring the old input shaft bearing out, it slid backwards about two inches!! Now I've got to reposition it again. But this time, I'm gonna put a mudflap under it. What I really should do is just fab a custom cradle for this tranny.

Why are the splines on the new one so thin?

Apparently it was an updated design. I ended up buying an aftermarket one for 1/2 as much and it had the fat splines. I'll be lucky to get more than 400/1,450 out of the old 3406A so I think it'll be fine.

The looser fitting splines were supposed to reduce transmission rattle at idle.

I made a bigger plate, bolted onto the existing plate, with grade 8 bolts, alone with angle iron, with slotted holes, for adjustment. First jack went sideways on me. Almost lost it. I hung the trans. Took it back, got another. Then made the bigger plate, added washers, adjustment bolt. I ended up with the right angle, using 2x6 and balancing it just right, using a 2x6 between the adjustment bolt and plate. Because the tilt wanted to move forward. Kind of got lucky, and it all lined up perfectly. Only had to clock it about 1/2” for bell housing to line up. Hard to roll on wood/ sheet metal. Hooked a chain to the jack. Had my wife pull it with the pick up, while I guided it from the back.

When we were 20 yrs old, She pulled me across the Greater New Orleans Bridge with a chain in rush hour traffic. Her in a 76 Valiant, me in a 68 Dart using the brakes. Lol. She’s good!!
