Survey Says: Most drivers break HOS rules

i cant speak for every one but as for me for the most part i ignore the hos rules always have and always will, im out here to make money and thats it , i dont run a toy i run equipment to make money and i do it very well if i payed attention to rules that are aplied by people that no little about a truck then i would probably be out of buisness in a year.

those hos rules are made to make money for the state and goverment with little regard for the truck owner or safty and if you own the truck when you cant make your payment just tell the finance company that hos rules say you had to shut down so you cant make it , see what they tell you.

the regulations on hos rules like most are made by people that have no idea what a truck is let alone what it does or what the driver is capabel of.

now im sure there will be a lot of you that disagree with me and that is fine but when youve been out here as long as i have then you can tell me how to do it right.

Southernpride, I agree 100% with what you said. I know that there are people that probably do follow the hos down to the minute and do well, I'm not saying that it can't be done that way. However, for what I do sometimes the hos just don't work for me. In the end it's up to me to make a living for my family.

 

No worse than people so obsessed with rules that they continually make new ones for no reason.

 

The vast majority of the time, I follow the rules to the letter. That doesn't mean I agree with them, however. As a team driver, I particularly miss splitting the sleeper berth time 5/5, like so many other teams. Having to drive 10/10 has meant that I have driven more tired, more often than I ever did before they eliminated 5/5. The ridiculous 8/2 is no help whatsoever.

One set of rules does not fit all, clearly.

Still, particularly for a company driver with trucks that have satellite tracking, and PrePass, and all those other ways that can used to check your logs for honesty, I'd think more than twice about cheating on those logs. If you are involved in an accident, those logs will be checked as thoroughly as possible to ascertain your truthfulness. I say, don't give them any ammunition to doubt your legality.

I don't wish to be overly dramatic, but this is Big Brother stuff, and it's here now for many of us. For me personally, keeping it legal and straight up is the safest bet for my future, financial and otherwise.
