Thanks again nana, I think the CMV Manual breaks it up pretty good. It's got the "7 basic Steps" for pre-trip. I thought "what a breeze, only 7" until I saw how much was in each section, LOL!!!! It takes up 4 pages with a font size of 1, squint squint!!:biggrin_25510:

Pre/Post trips are very important. Like others have said, you want to catch a problem, during the pretrip before it cause a break down.. Example, once I found during a post trip a wheel seal leaking, and grease coming out from the brake drums.. This could have happened seconds after I left the yard, or sometime during the day.. I did not notice it as there was no apparent sign like not able to stop the truck when braking..

I couldn't believe the tires on a big-rig I just saw in Medford(I'm starting to notice all these things). I sware the wear-bars were showing in the tires. I think thats what you call them. Anyway, no tread. I notices as he turned I could see some tread on the left-side but it had to be an owner-operator? I would hope a company wouldn't put you out on the road like that:biggrin_25524:

Why bother to check the fuel gauge? I know when I fueled . . .

I am amazed at what I see on the road like that. The Company I work for seems to have very good equipment and the Mechanics are also very good and prompt at fixing things. If they can't do it, it goes back to the dealership.

Tires need to be kept in good shape, replaced when needed especially when the weather starts turning colder or the rainy season starts.

I have a feeling my eyes are gonna be on that fuel gauge since I haven't a clue how fast you burn that stuff in a big rig:biggrin_25525:

i live in indiana, i have no idea if your pre trip is anything like ours or not

when i first got the list of all the things for the pre trip......i said oh sh**.....theres no way ill ever be able to remember all this

but after going over it a few dozen times i realized its honestly not that bad.......yes its a lot, 4 pages front and back on the papers they gave us, but this is the best way to do it.......break it down into 3 or 4 sections.....go to the truck as much as u can, on the first day do the first section....keep going over it, do it for maybe 2-3 days and u should have it down

then move on to the next section but also practice the first section.....so on so forth.....long story short......put a little time into it and i guarantee you will get it, cuz its not nearly as bad as it looks when you first see the list

Ok darlin, sounds like a plan! I may be able to study a truck way before I hit school too. Now I have to wait for January as I have a seasonal job that starts Nov 16th. But that will be my extra money for school that the grant won't cover. Also, it will cover my DMV fees. It will be worth the wait and I can have all I need before I start school. Thank you much FB!! Good to see you this a.m.

There's a huge difference in being in a truck everyday and getting one that another driver just got out of. Even so you should still inspect to check items as they wear or break. How do you know someone didn't steel your fuel while you were away? You don't so that's one more reason to check. I've caught items like a seal going out on the turbo, a brake canister that broke free from the welds, seals on wheels that leak, and other items that wear and break just from use. To jump up into the truck and go without checking it over is just plain running blind.
