Hey, I've recently had the engine in my 2015 Cascadia rebuilt. My engine suddenly died as i was driving down the highway. The cause for the failure was a failed o-ring on the (plastic) oil pickup manifold.
I was shocked to find out that the pickup tube in these engines is made out of plastic. I asked the mechanic at Freightliner about it and he says it is a pretty common point of failure on these DD15's. I spent a little over $28k rebuilding this engine which put me in a terrible economic situation. I almost got wiped out between the price of the repair and the month of downtime.
I'm wondering if there are other owner operators and such with the same problem. I think Freightliner needs to be held accountable for such a terrible flaw, but unfortunately one or two truckers won't be heard. Im looking to start a class action lawsuit against them if there are enough of us. I don't know where to start yet, but I suspect that once we get a good group together, we should be able to put something together and move forward with this. Any input is welcomed.
