I have apportioned plates out of Texas. 90% of my travels are in Texas but I do go to Oklahoma and Kansas occasionally. My registration expired at the end of November and I went to the regional DMV office to renew today and they are closed / appointment only. I tried to set up an appointment and they are not scheduling any appointments for IRP renewals. Basically have to mail it in or do online which I can’t seem to figure out.

When I go to their webpage it seems Texas has a waiver for registration requirements? I know they had this for personal vehicles our family cars have been expired for months but does it extend to the big truck? I’m moving a dozer tomorrow and it is fine either way as the registration states a five day grace period is granted but I am curious about after that. Am I shut down until I figure out how to renew or is there a waiver in place?

Anyone know? The TXDMV regional service center where I normally do my renewal is appointment only. You schedule online and they assign you a time. They explicitly state they will not schedule an appointment for anything IRP. Between today and Friday I have spent over three hours on hold with phone calls to them trying to get a human so I can ask.

I finally got through. Here is the scoop. In Texas all registrations are currently waived and this includes big trucks however if you go out of state whether or not if they are suspended is up to each individual state. The lady said if I was going to be just running in Texas I would be fine with it expired but if I was going out of state to check on the situation in the states I am going to.

She also said once they resume normal operations there will be some time allowed before having a registration is enforced likely 60 days.

She is setting me up with online access so I can renew online and I am going to go ahead and do it but at least I can drive around here local until it gets done.

Only waived in Texas. You get out of state and there is no waiver.
