Well, yesterday was my last day of orientation/hands-on training. I am supposed to call today and find out where the truck that I will be using is located (I know, leaving orientation without a truck? That's new to me.) I will definitely keep everyone posted on what they have me doing as well as how the paychecks are. I have over half a decade of tank experience so I'm familiar with the equipment (pumps, hoses, fittings, in transit heat, valves, wearing goggles/hard hats, nomex, spill pads...etc.) I will tell you this...Schneider does expect a lot from their bulk drivers (the van division is a different story). From the incredible amount of paperwork to the safety proceedures involved I'm sure that alone discourages most that apply here. They usually lose one or two people within the first day or so because they just can't handle the responsibility of hazmat loads and all that comes with them. As mentioned before, they will hire you as a bulk driver even if you have no tank experience. There was a man in my class that had 5 years of van experience. He did just fine and he is 60 years old! If you decide to go that route just have patience. You'll probably wish that you started out as a tanker yanker.

Thanks, it sounds pretty interesting and it is looking more likley that I will apply..once I get my tanker endorsement.

I got that one dreaded phone call today...the Mail run has been cancelled !!!:biggrin_2551::biggrin_25510:

My last run is this weekend, I did not run as much as I wanted but at least I had a job to help pay some of the bills and now this comes tumbling down..Bam, just like that. I am not a happy camper. I don't know what I am going to do now, looks like I am going to have to go back OTR, my fiance is not going to be pleased but there is not a lot else I can do when I live in a town where the unempolyment rate is over 10% and most of them are Truck Drivers ! It took me 10mths just to get the mail job...#### it.

    Right now life sucks...:biggrin_2552:

I look forward to hearing more about your life at Schneider...thanks

I know running otr is unattractive but
they did promise me a minimum of 6 days a month at home. Just stay tuned to this thread. It just might help you make a sound decision if you decide to make the jump to tankers.

    Sacred Feline Thanks this.

Thanks and I will stay tuned...and yes 6 days a month is a lot better than most companies are offering these days.

I am not going to jump into just anything as I believe that most mistakes are made when one makes a decision based on a 'knee jerk' reaction to something happening in one's life, so for now I will keep my eye on this forum and start looking into what is out there, I hate job hopping and would prefer to stay with one company so it has to be the right one.

    Good luck and safe journey's.

Best of luck to ya man. I pulled vans for SNI a while back (almost 5 years ago) and realy enjoyed my time there. My Dad and I drove team together. They realy took good care of us. I would love to go back to them, unfortunatly they are not hiring in my area anymore. Even if they were I havent driven a truck in the past almost 5 years. Long story bout how that happened but I'll just say I had to make several year long trips overseas for Uncle Sam.

They called me earlier this year about going Tanker. When they asked if I had facial hair I said I had a normal size moustache. Nothing large. They said I would have to shave it. I said nope, can't do it. So I'm still without a job. The moustache was no problem with wearing a mask the years that I worked at a nuclear plant. But I can understand and respect that it's their company, so it's their rules.:biggrin_25512:

I think that a moustache is fine, just no beards or gotees. The trainer that I had for two days of hands on training had a moustache and I questioned it and he informed me that as long as it's not beyond the corners of your mouth you're fine. In other words, you can't grow the "bull haulers" mustache.

I drive for schneider bulk and they will get yu home 6 days per month. I decided to go local with them since i didnt like being gone...just not makin any money. As far as mouthache i do have one and its not a problem.

They are decent... no one bothers you or tells you what route to take etc...but just too much free time that yu dont get paid for. I guess thats just how this industry is.
