There's something to be said for that approach. I still think swimming is easiest with some basic lessons.

Unless your fairly proficient in sales( both phone/e-mail) no amount of training will help. Record yourself making a sales pitch and have yourself and someone else listen to it. Think of elevator sales pitch, 30 seconds to have them talking to you or you're dead. Or you end up with just those that send out e-mail blasts to brokers.

That's sound advice. I imagine when contacting shippers and carriers as a freight agent, it's much easier to pitch to potential clients when working with a reputable and established broker. Finding a solid broker who doesn't mind developing a new agent is going to be my focus.

Remember that you're trying so sell something (to shipper) that they don't need. Not at all like selling something that someone wants/needs.

Really doesn't matter. If they know the name they have likely worked with them before and either want to work again or have nothing to do with them. That's a harder sell yet.

It's beginning to sound impossible. Selling a service no one needs to people who don't want it...

Brokers and their agents must add some kind of value to the overall system? Otherwise I'd think there would be no brokers in operation at all. Identifying and defining that value is probably good content for the sales pitch.

That's what makes a great salesperson, someone who can do that.

The customer has many carriers/brokers they can call, their need for someone new is pretty low. That's why you need a pitch that will hook them in a very short time.

The carrier side is easier. You have a load, they want a load. It just boils down to rate.

I’m sure you do, I’m well aware of who you are. My previous comment was a joke.
