Hey guys. I’m a fleet owner out of Winnipeg I have around 20 truck. All of them are leased on with companies like day and Ross , bison , TransX , Canada Cartage , trappers transport. I’m on here wondering does anybody else in Canada have multiple trucks with these carriers , and should I go get my own shop and office for this or no . Should I keep on leasing on with carriers or should I get my own authority ?

I had a smaller fleet leased on or providing power-only (own authority), although not with any of the companies you listed. I guess the question is if you can get the same amount of work or more, or better rates, than you're getting now, without significantly increasing your workload or risk.
Generally speaking, as power-only, you'll be even further down the list than a lease/owner operator, who is further down than company drivers. This can be a problem unless you differentiate yourself through better service or some other niche. Operating under your own authority does give you more flexibility to move trucks around to follow the work, or the ability to get your own customers. Of course this likely means more workload, employees, etc.
You're probably looking for more information, but the "what should you do" is entirely in your hands.mudflap77 and BigHossVolvo Thank this. -
Going on your own, and trying to find work these days is next to impossible IMHO. So the power only thing, with the established companies, that have consistent freight is key. -
How things could be working out when TransX paying 32$ per hour to owner operators? Not only these guys ( mostly east Indians ) pay for maintainance, insurance and fuel but they also hire drivers !!! All out of 32 bucks per hour...

I do work for some of the bigger companies too but I run my own authority. I am the last to be called only after the company drivers and lease ops are busy but my rate is good enough that I don’t need the truck on the road everyday
BigHossVolvo and not4hire Thank this. -
