The Nazi's had good propaganda films also.We in America dont need a law telling us our limits. Each person should know there own limit based own how they feel each day.

Nana your with swift, did they tell you of the swift driver on highway 12 that was over hours going from idaho to montana that hit a car killed the driver of the car, i think the swift driver went to jail, he was trying to get one of those hot loads done for a stupid dispatcher, cost that driver more than the wrecked load. Now all but a few swift drivers are banned by swift from using highway 12 in idaho going to montana.

Oneshot, the law is not to tell you, it's to keep your ever-lovin' company from killing you. Without Hours of Service and log books they will run your dumb butt right into the ground.

When I first started driving up in Canada we had no log books. It was not uncommon to run 4 and 5 days straight. You ran like that or you didn't work. Most trucks didn't even have a bunk, just a piece of plywood across the seats. You could buy pills right in the dispatch office.

My body paid a big price for that which is still with me today. I lost several friends, including one I had to watch and hear as he burned to death trapped in his cab begging someone to shoot him. Another guy who was the "Best driver in the outfit" wound up having a mental breakdown. Sleep depravation and Bennies do wierd things to your mind. We were hauling fuels and hi-po additives at the time. The company tossed him away like a used shop rag. The last time I saw him he was a swamper on a garbage truck and barely knew his own name. :biggrin_25512:

Anyone who lets a POS dispatcher run him illegal is a ####### idiot.:biggrin_25510:

That's your best response?I've never been a company driver.Been an O/O for 22yrs.Past 10 with one of the better smaller carriers. So to say they would run my dumb butt in the ground is extremely funny.45 and debt free, yeah I'm dumb.I'll even say I have no problem with daily hours of service, but the 70 rule makes no common sense.U can rest 10 hrs every day but run out of hrs and have to sit.It limits my earning ability for no safety reason.:biggrin_255:

thats the way I see it, the law thing I mean. I am all for that "only drive 11 hours". That's about my average driving cross-country as much as I have in my small truck. That has been too much at times but only because I didn't sleep well the night before or I didn't take enough breaks and really stretch out and walk around a little. I am glad for that law. If I lose a job because of telling a dispatcher I am done for the day and not safe to drive then so be it. At my age I know too well I am not superchic, not that I ever was:biggrin_25513:
