This is also why Caterpillar is exiting the on-highway truck engine market. They simply could not keep up with unreasonable demands from the EPA.

looks like they may barely get by on the off road market, we run SISU in combines and tractors, new ones are using urea injection to clean emmisions just like the on road trucks why? they can use a tier 2 motor put urea injection make it tier 4 compliant with out going overboard on the egr, power and economy is actually more than tier 3 compliant engines

Na, it's the whopping 65hp that scares me and I don't like oil stains in my garage. [IMG]

A motor that is "good right out of the box" may not always be the best motor. I person needs to look at the mechanics, architecture, and many other areas to decide what the best motor is for their operation. If I wanted to just buy a truck and run it down the road...then yes the ACERT is not the right motor. I choose the ACERT for many reasons and have only gained mroe respect for the motors true potential after investigating it more. Cummins has a great product and has lead the class 8 truck sales for many years because of the EPA and CATs inability to design and build a decent emissions motor. I plan on heavy sled pull (15+ pulls a year) and over the road use of my ACERT. The Cummins engine line-up didn't have anything to benefit me at the time of my purchase. To many people dwell on what motor is the best overall when the better question should be: Whats the best motor for my operation? Followed by a detail description of the operation they run.

Pullingtrucker, you are such a :smt049ACERT:smt049 lover:smt049, it is almost impressive. But since you also work for Schneider - and we all know what it means - what kinda mileage you have put on her already? Because you sound like you have been to hell and back twice pulling the sled. Or you just planning to?

Cummins, Volvo. Despite the many arguements that the D16 is expensive to maintain, many volvo owners have told me that if you do proper pm's, the volvo will last a long time. Also, can a ISX400 be uprated to 525? I have driven a columbia with Detroit 500 and a 379 with a 3406E and loved the cat but prefer cummins and volvo.

The volvo is more expensive to maintain and alot less shops will work on a volvo. I drove a 99 volvo with a 425 volvo in it strong lil motor drove a 09 volvo with the 485 volvo hated that motor never gave problems but it was weak.

Personally I love the mech. cats. I would rather have a old b model than bout anything on the road.

But for the avg guy the isx cummins is the wasy to go. I think for the guys like Pullingtrucker?? the cats are way better though more of a aftermarket following on them.
So like was said you need to think about whats better for your need and wants and go from there.

I have the 14L driptroit 515. It does all I want it to do of course I run Fla and texas back to the mid atlantic and mid west. I may run one or two trips west a year

I am a ACERT lover for right now cause this motor fits my operation pefectly (over the road and sled pulling). I run about 90,000 or so miles a year and averaged about 4.5-4.8 MPG when I purchased the truck. After a few simple upgrades it was up to 5.5-5.8. With my more recent upgrades I am seeing about 5.8-6.0 with a underlying problem I am trying to diagnose today. So far I have about 308,000 on my ride.

I guess I don't know what else your above comment means in regards to being leased to Schneider.

As for sled pulling...I have been around it for about 21 years. I started competeing about 8 years ago with a gas 4x4 pickup and about 6 years ago pulling my over the road semi at the local fairs. I have learned from this expereince that the best motor for one thing is not the best motor for another. I have also learned the hard way that factory specs or what is said to be within factory specs mean nothing in the real world. Factory specs are just inplace to give a certain amount of tolerance to allow for faster manufacturing of a product. I don't believe in "within factory spec".

Can anyone give me an idea what kind of milage the 2006 Freightliner Classic with a Series 60 may be getting?

The one thing I have heard over and over again about the CATs is the cost of parts. I know you get what you pay for but it seems CAT is really proud of their stuff. Especially when it comes to "in frames"... and I wonder what will them pulling out of the OTR market do to their pricing?

FWIW... the guy pissing on HD I actually chatted with him on a boat forum we all belong to. It is a great picture! He actually wasn't pissing, it was from his water bottle. LMAO still funny!

You think there is some NUMBER for every engine/year/truck model when it comes to mpg?
