Man has second, all other brands first.

Both has plus and minus it is not technical reason but way they decided

It could.............NZ has low gross weights.
Don't let the high number off axles fool you.

2nd driven axle give benefit of more weight on it when truck is loaded on conventional front suspension, 2nd axle will stay on ground for longer period of time and this is main reason for it.

mb has load sharing suspension on front so load is always equal (+ extra dead weight of driven axle itself over normal steered axle about 350kg). so after all mb has more weight on 1st axle unloaded than man on 2nd. while loaded they are about same. when comparing scania volvo vs man, man will get more weight when loaded on driven front axle.

on straight mud situation 8x6 with front axle will more pull while with second will push, thereby first should be significantly better.
shortest man is 4775mm, old scania 4250, new 4300.
such long wb combined with awd give terrible turning radius (based on my house and blind end street, man 8x6 cannot turn in front of house but have to reverse it)
such long wb requieres long tipper body which makes it very unstable combined with already high frame.

i think overall 8x6 with 1st axle wins.

With 8x4 and the kingpin that far back lets hope for a Cummins QSK38 so the second front axle is justified.
