Kenworth Trucks - The World's Best ®
Its got a 2 speed. Probably automatically shifted though. Makes sense since having a high and a low range likely increases efficiency.
No more manuals?

Back in the 80s I worked for a company that had 1 automatic. No body wanted to drive that junk. Sat for 2 years till they sold it.

I drive an auto daily but there’s atleast 8 times a night these trucks go full stupid mode. Especially doing Michigan turnarounds with 6 axle trailers everytime. Truck doesn’t know if it wants to upshift or downshift and our trucks have a knob on the shifter to go up or down a gear but it’s so unresponsive. We have 1 truck that’s a manual 18 speed it’s much older than the rest of our trucks. But when my trucks down I’d rather drive that. When ever any of our other manual trucks were sent down to our yard for maintenance I’d drive em as soon as they were back in service until they took em from me. Actively trying to get them to give me a manual... I know we have em

Automatics are here to stay. The trucking companies would be out of business without them today.

But with the current ‘meat in the seat’ mentality of the industry whose looking for finesse and skill?JolliRoger, Badmon and jamespmack Thank this. -
It’s a good thing that Nashville bomb went off while most Braindeads were at home. Imagine the confusion when all the nondriving, can’t read road signs and drive at the same time crowd lost their cell coverage and GPS.firemedic2816, jamespmack and God prefers Diesels Thank this. -
I'm a convert to the church of automatic transmissions. My man card is good through April 2024 so I guess I'll see where I stand then.

With myself and my three drivers never having driven an auto, we went with an 18sp in our new truck. We heard enough rumors of difficulties backing into trailers with finesse in icy conditions, and free wheeling down hills that we weren't really interested in loosing control over the driving process in winter. Of course, we could be totally wrong, but I'll never know since the opportunity to drive an auto won't happen any time soon for us. I don't think the manual is going anywhere soon. Too much use of them in many parts of trucking still.
