He was buying vettes back in the 70s.
I think he's probably owned one since.
His interpersonal skills/ driver relationships are well documented from way back.
Unless you own it or make it yourself you're gonna be subject to someone else's ideals and expectations.
Wear and tear, minor damage or poor driver decisions are the cost of owning a mega truck line, and when you put inexperienced folks behind the wheel craps gonna occur.
To berate a driver w a hand written letter seems somewhat contemptible to me it really doesn't surprise either.
He's always been a jerk, according to people that knew him afaik. -
Part of the problem is the fact that the company hiring standards were lowered over the past few years.
When I first heard about Marten it was minimum 2 years experience required.
When I got hired it had dropped down to minimum 1 year experience.
About a few weeks (give or take a month or two) after I was hired it had dropped down to 6 months!
Now in recent weeks I’ve been seeing A LOT of equipment getting damaged (mostly tractors-in particular recent newer tractors with extended panel damage from jackknifing the tractor too far) and the lower of the hiring standards is partially to blame, along with people not paying attention to WTF they’re doing!Last edited: Dec 7, 2020

I had a very short career with Marten out of the Ontario California terminal in 2010. I lasted about a week and a half. I backed into a steel shipping container with my doors open and just bumped it. No damage. The driver of the intermodal trailer called his safety and I had to tell Marten. I was fired right then. But that wasn’t good enough for those ########, they had to put in a DAC entry on me too..
While I was at their facility in Ontario, a trailer was towed in with buckled landing gear. Apparently the driver got into an accident on I 10 and went off the road. I overheard them talking in the office about the repercussions to the driver with no concern to his health. In fact the safety guy told them to back off till they could find out what happened. They are a vindictive company that you never want to work for. I’ve also heard the stories about Randy as well.I saw his poseur self on American Chopper where he was buying a theme bike for Marten Transport. Let’s don’t forget his daddy started that company. Total POS. -
Recently had to deliver at a couple of Walmart DC’s where Marten was running the truck fleet. Even though they had a speed limit around those lots the Marten drivers were acting like they were in a race. I won’t have any sympathy for them when Walmart finishes getting rid of these mega company contract fleets.

I don’t see that happening anytime soon. If anything, Walmart has been increasing the contracts out of the DCsLast edited: Jan 4, 2021

A week and a half? That isn’t even a probationary period, let alone a career. Even Swift drivers last longer than that.bzinger Thanks this.
