Hello all,
I am seriously considering leaving the "office" environment and getting out of sales. I want to see the country and make a decent living. I've read all these negative stories about CR ENGLAND, SWIFT, USA TRUCKS, STEVENS TRANSPORT, PAM, etc. etc.
From what I gather is that you basically have to be someone's ##### for a year to get the experience, and then the doors open up for better opportunities. I get that. I know you have to crawl before you walk.
My question to you is, would I be better off going to a local community college and taking out a personal $5,000 loan and pay it back and find a company I want to work for, or should I just take my licks and go with a CR England, SWIFT or something similiar and get it paid for, put in my time, and get out??
Any and all replies welcome, and especially from those who have gone the community college route as I haven't read hardly any statements from that group.
Thanks in advance!!
CDL-the best route to take to get it?? no experience

Hello and Welcome to the site
IMHO
I would suggest that you check with your local Community/Technical Colleges and look at their Truck Driver Training programs.
Grant money is available, for those who qualify ( unemployed, under employed, dislocated worker...). This grant money is offered through the Employment Security Commission (ESC), to help individuals to obtain training to enter or re-enter the workforce.
These grants are separate from your standard Pell grant. Lottery funds are sometimes used in conjunction with the WIA funds that the ESC offers.
Your local College or ESC will have the information to help you. In addition, they can tell you who is hiring is your area.
Best of Luck to You and Your Success!!!

It is by far better to pay for schooling yourself. Even if you have to take out a personal loan. Being a new driver you won't make very much then take out $100 or so a week to pay back the company who paid for your schooling and then pay for road expenses. It won't leave you hardly nothing. So check out a community collage or vocational school.
