Bad fuel gauge giving false readings

I have to agree with you on this. There is no earthly reason why your truck should NOT be in working order. That being said, carrying a means to stick the tank is still a very good idea. It can make the difference between paying a premium for fuel that you could wait a bit for, and paying a reasonable price.

Did that make any sense to anybody?????

Ha yeah except for the reasonble price fuel, you should just have just said a lower premium for fuel

A bad fuel gauge is not gonna stop me from trucking. Its just a pain in the ###. I picked up a beer load in newark yesterday that weighed 47,200lbs. I had to make sure i had enough fuel so as not to run out and also not be overweight.

This is an easy fix.

Our Volvo did the same thing. What is happening is the float is getting stuck on filler cap hanger... basically at the bottom of the chain there is a flattened looking V with a little coil in the middle connecting the chain to the cap keeping the cap with the tank. This flatten V looking thing hangs up the float giving you the false reading. Remove the flattened V piece and it will fix you problem. Just get a long needle nose and angle it out and remove her and you are done.

Now, the only other thing you have to figure out is what tank has the float. If I remember correctly it is the driver's side at least that is how ours was set up. There is only one flat and you'll see the wires coming out of the top of the tank.

The only thing is you have have to remember to put the cap back on or she is a goner.

whats really funny is that i actually came to this thread seeking what may be wrong with my fuel gauge, and it happened to coincide with my chain on my filler cap disappearing also

so lets stop the juvenile insulting, we are supposed help each other
