Still out here watching and asking questions. I got this second hand, so wanted to get it from the experts.
Was discussing the driving option with a co-worker and he told me that his "friend" (this is were the second hand part comes in) was having trouble getting miles. The driver blamed it on economy slowing. Has anyone seen this trend, is it a season thing or just perceived by the driver.
    Thanks.

The December season has been slower than expected according to many of the reports I have read. The months after Christmas -- January through March or April tend to always be slow months in this business. Just a heads up for all you newbies, expect the first quarter of the year to slow down every year. Once you get into spring, things pick up and summer are usually the busiest months. I know the more experienced drivers will correct me if I messed it up, but just know that the freight industry runs on a cycle and there are busy times and slow times. But, any driver who consistently does a good job -- safe, on time and communicates well with their dispatcher (and other company contacts) as well as the shippers and recievers -- will tend to get more miles than the 'problem child'. Always maintain a good attitude -- even when you are having problems -- and you will become a more valuable and trusted employee. Those are usually the ones who get the miles first. It's not 100%, but it helps.

I have also been hearing drivers complain about the load slow down, and yes because of change overs etc the first part of the year is often slower. Its just something you have to "plan" for.....although I have been hearing complaints that the last part of the summer season was slower too..guess it depends on what you haul, your area and as keelady said how well you work with the company.

Thanks for the info. The seasonal slow downs are something to think about and remember.
