You did the same thing I would have done. When you get home, call them and try to talk the the big boss, or at least someone high up the ladder. Make sure they are aware of how their underlings handle a difficult situation involving their drivers.
I would also, at some point, consider starting a thread in the Bad Companies forum telling your story. I think IRT would hear about it very fast.

So I’m booking it home and got almost all the way there before fatigue just couldn’t be overcome anymore. Including driving the truck to the terminal, I had been driving for pretty much 21 hours straight. A long the way I discovered a few things. A lot of truckers are boneheads. I mean yeah you see that car flying up behind you but go ahead and get over and try to pass the 65 mph truck in your 65.1 mph truck. And nobody budges for miles.
Second when the people at the border patrol checkpoints ask if you’re a us citizen just say yes. I mean how do they know if you’re lying and now you’re backing things up getting interrogated.
And why when the speed limit is 60 everyone wants to go 90, but when it’s 80 across west Texas everyone is going 70? -
Op you've had a rough couple days.
Pull over get a nap, have a fresh outlook when you wake.
Wish you the best.TheLoadOut, JAYROK, bzinger and 2 others Thank this. -
I'm a little confused. Your in Fl. Family member died in Ca. Truck co offers to get you there by deadheading half way then loaded the rest of the way. But you decide to leave the truck and sounds like you rented a car and are heading home quickly. Yes, you will get there but probably not much quicker then under a load. The funeral won't be for a week or so with all the arrangements needed. I'm not privvy to who died. And don't get me wrong, not trying to rag on you but not sure you did the right thing. Good luck

Driver: Hello dispatch, I've had a death in my family and need to return home ASAP
Dispatch: We are sorry to hear that, here's the order number for you next pick up
Driver: Umm, did you not hear what I just said?
Dispatch: I'm sorry, no, can you repeat it?
Driver: I've had a death in my family and need to return home.
Dispatch: (silence)
Dispatch: OK, well, we'll get you rerouted home after this load.
Driver: That will take too long I need to ge home
Dispatch: We are very sorry for your loss but our customer really needs this load of paper towels picked up and brought to ABC Grocery Distribution.
Driver: Go f*#@ yourself
Dispatch: So the load is ready and when do you..
Driver: (click)
Yeah, I just can't imagine having to beg for time off to pay your last respects, only to be treated like your life isn't as important as the next load of whatever. Some don't like the responsibilities of working for themselves but I could never go back to working for someone else.D.Tibbitt, bentstrider83, Coffey and 1 other person Thank this.
