Yes I think it will be fine if driven responsibly.

If you're easy on it, you should have no issues. As already mentioned a trans temp gauge and cooler would be a good idea so you can see if it starts working too hard. I'd be very cautious if you were planning on accelerating through the gears faster. But just easing into the throttle to hold hills better in the top gears is much easier on the transmission and a temp gauge will help you keep from pushing it too hard. A temp gauge wont help prevent shock loads.

    Grapeape,

Ya I am no speed demon, I just want a little more in the hills, looking to hold speed more than accelerating really fast.

How did the transmission end up holding up with the extra torque?

I was thinking about doing the same thing.

Admittedly, the motors i bring up here are weak compared to today's electronic motors...
In the '70s the rt012513 etc held up well behind the kta's, 1693's etc. Any mechanical part is going to fail early if abused.
Any old timers here please feel free to add to or correct.

I've been running an estimated 2200ft/lb of torque through my 1850 rated transmission for 5 years and I aint easy on it.

Will you have the same results with a 1500 rated trans i couldn't say but I'd think a few more ft/lbs couldn't hurt

We're running a dbl over 14613 with 1850-2000tq w/o a cooler. 175k on the trans w/o any issues. Be easy on her and she'll take a ton of hp before it goes boom
