Trying to cut corners this early in the game is a bad sign, I think.

You need 0 hours to get your CDL and get hired.
You need the 160 hour course if you want an easier time of getting hired.tscottme, buddyd157, Redtwin and 1 other person Thank this. -

Pennsyltucky only requires the written test and a driving test. There's no requirement to have x number of hours behind the wheel before taking the test. -
NC , no training requirement.

The FMCSA went through the rulemaking process on what they call: ELDT or Entry Level Driver Training. It will apply to all drivers that get a CDL, with some exceptions, after Feb 7, 2022.

My thoughts are you need to learn how to 1. Do a thorough pre/ posttrip.. don’t need to be a mechanic but be able to diagnose basic problems. 2. how to back up a trailer.. driving in straight line is the easy part. Going backwards is the skilled part of the job... learning how to setup/ get out and look/ scanning the area will take the most time and be where you’ll need to progress the most 3. Taking turns and looking in mirrors... as simple as it sounds a lot of new drivers just don’t look... between 120 and 160 I’d go with 120 long as you get enough backing practice..
