it may be that some companies are more willing to go to some schools for prospective drivers. maybe CFI doesn't go to that particular school right now, or maybe they did, and got a bad batch of students, and now they "shy away" from that school. as far as "kick-backs".........who actually really knows. its the Job Placement person that helps you find a job, not any of the instructors as far as i know, so, there may be some "incentives" for the Placement person, but i would think that if it were true, he/she would want as many companies going there for even more "incentives". afterall, why cut off your supply line and have only 1 or 2 companies recruit from there.........????

Some trucking companies pay for a new driver to get their CDL through one of these driving schools. If a big trucking company sends the school a large amount of business, the school pushes that trucking company to the other students as well. Of course again, the new driver must agree to work for that company a certain legnth of time. If he doesn't....he owes the balance owed to the driving school, plus interest. It can be a fairly large amount. Think about it though...it doesn't cost a driving school much more to teach a class of 30 than it does to teach a class of 20, but it adds another $50,000 (more or less) to the school every three weeks.

Sorry I meant to say miles and not hours.

as far as I can tell the school is owned and run by 3 people and I think they have trainers that they pay. CFI does hire from there but they push CRST. I dont feel really good about CRST mostly from what I read here. Thanks for all the info and Merry Christmas to all.

I think a lot of schools get kick backs. They also push their students into carriers they know will hire them, to keep their percentages up. Gotta be able to advertise that 98% employment bit. Even if they push into a trashy carrier like Crst.

And to push for Crst over the original CFI is dumbfounding. I mean seriously, they werent even on the same playing fields.

You know what guys, this is the only industry where people are crying about paying $5000 to get educated enough to get a license to make 10 times that much within a couple years.

    1. ALL the non Technical school Truck driving schools are getting "kick backs" It's called payment!
    2. Yes they are directing students toward a carrier, it's not called company financed training for nothing.

Now, you might very well be right about CRST and some of the more low class schools out there. I know they are out there because I see their output a lot. However you would do these so called "noobies" you report caring about if you would stay positive and point out the good. It makes your writings more professional and believe it or not more people will actually listen to you. I went through this with someone I had contact with just recently with another subject. Why not accentuate the positive and leave out the negative? There is a driving school near my home. It is trash run by trash. Their equipment is just barely legal to have on the road. Their failure rates are horrid. How they are still in business is beyond me. When I am asked about this school I try to redirect the person to consider better choices. However if that does not work and they seem heck bent on going to check that school out I show them my notebook where I keep facts and figures about that school. Most of the time that is enough.

I have been a member of this forum for a good while now. In this board I have seen negative comments made over the years about almost every one of the top 100 carriers. Then I go to the FMCSA website and see countless example after examples of carriers being shut down by the FMCSA. It is clearly obvious you don't like CRST. Well there might be some drivers that might disagree with you. Are they automatically wrong just because their opinions are directly in conflict with yours?

You want to help young drivers avoid problems? Stay positive, direct them toward better. Go negative and then if they start to hear things that conflict with your advice they might stop listening.
